Maria Pereira - Profile on Academia.edu (original) (raw)
I am a sociologist, cultural producer, filmmaker, and researcher specializing in the intersections of the arts, education, and youth studies. I hold a PhD in Education from Universidade Federal Fluminense (Brazil) and ICS - Universidade de Lisboa (Portugal). Currently, I am a research fellow at the Institute of Anthropology at the Pontificia Università Gregoriana in Rome, where my research focuses on youth activism and safeguarding.
My professional journey began in independent film distribution, leading me to establish Brazucah Produções. In this role, I pioneered innovative audience-building strategies for Brazilian cinema, employing a decentralized promotion model that engaged over 200 young participants and 70 educational and cultural institutions in impactful campaigns for more than 40 films.
I furthered my exploration of these themes during my Master's studies in History, Politics, and Cultural Goods at Fundação Getulio Vargas in Rio de Janeiro. This academic inquiry prompted me to refine my methodological approaches, resulting in the establishment of Praga Conexões.
My inaugural project, Oficina Videointeratividade, reached 150 public schools, providing invaluable insights into the aspirations and needs of marginalized Brazilian youth. This initiative informed the development of various arts-based educational programs, including the Turista Aprendiz project.
My doctoral research employs a scientific lens to analyze the impact of arts practices on public school students in Rio de Janeiro, further elucidating the transformative power of artistic engagement.
In parallel with my academic and sociocultural experiences, I have dedicated to storytelling. My contributions include script development for the TV Globo series Malhacao, directing short films for Canal Futura, creating and producing the series Returnees (exhibited in Canal Curta, TV Escola, and RTP) and I am a sociologist, cultural producer, filmmaker, and researcher specializing in the intersections of the arts, education, and youth studies.
