Its adverse effects on public health and aquatic biota have been widely documented in several studies, which are closely related to their primary route of exposure, by eating food contaminated with this compound. Therefore, it is necessary to concentrate the information in order to analyze and understand its impact on public health. The present objective is to review the characteristics of endosulfan, its isomers and their presence in aquatic organisms of commercial importance in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. The aquatic organisms involved were molluscs, crustaceans and fish. The highest concentrations of endosulfan have been detected in oysters, Crassostrea virginica, with a maximum value of 99.48±16.21 ng g-1. Although the use of this insecticide for pest control worldwide is prohibited, research conducted in the Gulf of México and Caribbean Sea indicate that it is still used, which will affect future public health and consumers.

In commercial hatcheries, the stocking density is four to six times higher, and consequently the occurrence of ectoparasitic infections also rises. The aim of this study was to examine the growth and survival of masculinized Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fry in a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS). The fry, which were naturally parasitized by protozoan of the genera Trichodina, Ambiphrya and Chilodonella, weighed 0.013 ± 0.003 g and were reared in replicated tanks (N = 3) during 32 days at density of 18 fish/L -1 in the RAS to maintain good water quality, which was achieved especially during the first 22 days of fish rearing. The infection parameters and growth were monitored twice a week. The final fish weight was 1.17 ± 0. 6 g and survival 99.5%. The most frequent parasites were Trichodina and Gyrodactylus cichlidarum (Monogenea).

This activity has intensified in recent decades due to the need for food production. The present study evaluated the impact of Rachycentron canadum (Cobia) and Sciaenops ocellatus (Red Drum) farming in floating cages along the coasts of Campeche, Mexico. The impact of this mariculture system was evaluated through the physicochemical analysis of the sediment from underneath the cages and the analysis of the quality of the water from the farming area. Results showed high concentrations of nitrogen (> 0.5 %) and organic matter (> 80 %), both in the farming area and in the control sites. The concentration of fine sediment showed no spatial or temporal changes. There were no detectable concentrations of nitrites, nitrates, ammonium and phosphates in the water, in a range of 0.1 to 100 mg L -1 . The impact caused by this farming system appeared to be non significant, at least in the area of study, due to the constant movement of the water caused by ocean currents which, very likely, carried the waste from the cages to other places.

In both sites, nine species were found: 5 digeneans (4 adults, and 1 metacercaria); 3 monogeneans, and 1 adult nematode; in the lagoon and estuarine 77.7% of these species were already registered, 2 species are new records for this host, and 4 are new records for Mexico.

A case study research conducted where the participatory strategy of " Simultaneous Production Growth Groups " (SPGG) was applied for technology innovation, which includes technology modules, organizational strategy and operational management. The results were evaluated socially and economically. In 14 months, 3531.50 kg of live tilapia were distributed in four local places for sale and self-consumption. The system obtained a BCR of 1.23 and offered as well to the rural population an alternative of fish consumption in better freshness conditions than the regular fish supply. It brings up an extra income to the main market chain participants and development of aquaculture capabilities. Therefore, the LTPOS is a viable option for diversifying livelihoods and improving regional rural population income.

The aim of this review was to describe the main characteristics of Venturi type fertilizer injectors. It contains information related to the design, construction, modeling, performance, evaluation and installation, and provides a basis for the implementation of these systems into low pressure irrigation so as to improve the fertilizers management. The appropriate methodology for developing design is a simulation model based on the method of computational fluid dynamics, which results in a time and money. The design of injectors' diameters took into account the entrance, exit, suction and throat, as well as the convergent and divergent angles. Resumen—Las exigencias actuales demandan la introducción de nuevas tecnologías de riego en los campos agrícolas.
