The STF system is applied to a six-storey building that serves as apartments [2]. The STF system is used in the building in the transverse direction (N-S direction), while in the longitudinal direction (W-E direction) the building system uses the special moment resisting frame. The structural behavior was evaluated using nonlinear pushover and time history analyses. The results showed that by increasing the ratio of vierendeel panel width and vertical truss spacing, the ductility of the structure was increased. Based on the performance evaluation, the ratio of the vierendeel panel width and vertical truss spacing on the STF buildings that provided satisfactory performance was more or equal to 1.6. The ultimate drift obtained from non-linear time history analysis was smaller than the pushover analysis. This...

However, since the computer technology development has been increased rapidly, the computer simulations are also able to represent the detail behavior of concrete. This paper presents the modeling response of concrete material subjected to biaxial loading using finite element method software based. The plain concrete plates with dimensions 200mm x 200mm x 50mm and 150mm x 150mm x 50mm are analyzed using various combinations of biaxial loading. The results of the biaxial load combinations are covering the three non-linear regions of compression–compression, compression–tension, and tension–tension. The results of finite element analysis are also show good agreement to the experimental results that been taken from the previous study. The comparison results the difference between analytical and experimental study are less than 5%. Therefore, the concrete material model based on this finite element method soft...

The quality of the connection governs the failure or collapse of a building. Idealization of the design and behavior of Beam Connections (BC) in precast buildings is very crucial in providing a sound and ductile structure. Precast concrete system has several advantages for its construction quality particularly in terms of material due to its manufacturing process with better quality assurance and control in the making process. Other advantages are faster installation, and more practical in construction process. One of the structural members in a building structure is a beam. The beam is mainly intended to resist the internal bending moments which may cause tension failure and the internal shear forces that can lead to abrupt brittle failure. Hence, this study concentrated on the behavior of beam’s precast connection in seismic-resistant houses. The connection ...

Heat transfer modeling for reinforced concrete elements usually performed in 3D to get more accurate results. However, the complexities of 3D modeling sometimes produced the opposite result. That was due to a lot of things had to be considered when doing 3D modeling so the 3D analysis performed using finite element-based programs become more complex and time-consuming. Therefore, 2D model was proposed to simplify the complicated 3D. This model used a reinforced concrete slab with 120 mm thickness, 1200 mm width and 3000 mm long which exposed to fire at the bottom part. Numerical modeling was performed by finite element based program and used the coupled temperature-displacement analysis. The result was compare with the experimental result and manual calculation using variational method. Based on the modeling result, the 2D model produced satisfying result. It was found that the reinfo...

The study focuses on the durability of adhesive on tensile performance. A cold-formed steel – adhesive joints that have been loaded in tension until rupture. A comparison strength in tensile between mechanical joint and adhesive joint on the cold-formed steel was investigated. The increment strength of joints are about 27,11% with Sikadur 31 CF Normal adhesive and 81,84% with JB Weld 8265 epoxy. The joint strength of adhesive is based on the type of adhesive. The joint failure is adhesive failure (AF) for Sikadur 31 CF Normal and cohesive failure (CF) for JB Weld 8265 epoxy.

Reinforcement corrosion is one of the major durability problems in reinforced concrete structures... more Reinforcement corrosion is one of the major durability problems in reinforced concrete structures which can lead to the deterioration of the structures. The formation of rust, as the result of corrosion process, gives additional expansive pressure and generates excessive stress to the concrete which can cause cracking on the concrete cover. Therefore, it needs to analyze the damage process of the concrete induced by reinforcement corrosion to help predict service live of the structure. This paper presents information regarding the damage process of reinforced concrete induced by reinforcement corrosion. This paper also analyzes the growth of the expansive pressure and time to reach the limit crack of the model. Based on the study it can be conclude that the damage process of reinforced concrete affected by various things such as water cement ratio, concrete cover thickness etc.

The main cause of the damage is the large deformation of the building structural component cannot accommodate properly. Therefore, it is necessary to develop the Structural Health Monitoring System (SHMS) to measure precisely the deformation of the building structural component in the real time conditions. This paper presents the development of SHMS for reinforced concrete structural system. This monitoring system is based on deformation component such as strain of reinforcement bar, concrete strain, and displacement of reinforced concrete component. Since the deformation component has exceeded the limit value, the warning message can be sent to the building occupies. This warning message has also can be performed as early warning system of the reinforced concrete structural system. The warning message can also be sent via Short Message Service (SMS) through the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) network. Hence, the SHMS should be integrated with internet modem to connect with GSM network. Additionally, the SHMS program is verified with experimental study of simply supported reinforced concrete beam. Verification results show that the SHMS has good agreement with experimental results.

The SFT is a tubular structure submerged in the water at a fixed depth, which features several advantages from the structural and environmental impact points of view. In particular, the structural system is suited for waterway crossings in seismicity zones. Its interaction with the water provides additional damping and inertia to the system. To evaluate the SFT structural response of seismic loadings, a response spectrum analyses were carried out, in which the ground multi-support excitation is considered. The investigation of the different cable system configurations were also carried out. Both static and dynamic analyses were carried to find the optimal configuration of the structural system. Although the paper has had a definitive conclusion yet, the results gave useful indications of responses of Submerged Floating Tunnels subjected to earthquake. The SFT with two cable diagonals perpendicular with SFT’s body (called Model C) shows the optimal structural configuration compared with others.
