Car Recommendations Hey all,I was in a car accident yesterday morning. I'm fine, but the car is not so much.Ive been lusting after a Prius since they came out, but between the recent Toyota troubles, the fact that most of my driving is highway based (though in stop and go traffic) and the news that you're expected to get them serviced at a ridiculous rate, the missus is suggesting I widen my net.So I ask you, o wise ones of the web: What car are you happy with? I need one that's available under $20,000 and that will stand up to around 60 miles per day in a combination of steady highway and stop and go traffic.

If you can pick one up used (idiot Ford stopped the hatchback model, and you Do Not Want the sedan. The hatchback is really a Volvo, and runs like it.), I *highly* recommend it. Low mileage, low maintenance, and handles great. The ZX5 is better if you're going to be regularly going in and out of the back seat. The driver's seat is adjustable; my 6'4" husband (with all his height in his torso) can drive it comfortably without hitting his head; my 5'2" mother can adjust it so she's able to see easily, reach the pedals, and not worry about the airbag hitting her in a bad way. This turned out to be key; she started with a 2001 ZX3, and walked away from a high-speed, head-on collision with powder burns on her arms from the airbag - but no other injuries. The car was totaled - and she went right to the dealership and asked for The Exact Same Thing, which she had for five years, then went up to the ZX5 because she wanted more doors - there was nothing wrong with ZX3#2 when she traded it in, and I got my ZX3 at the same time (it was finally time to put my 14 year old Escort out to pasture). So, thrifty, tiny, speedy, and it can save your life. Yeah, that about sums it up.
