Experimentation has no boundaries... (original) (raw)

I've updated my black and white tutorial list and added 16 new tutorials, that others have made. The new ones are marked with red: These tutorials are translatable to ALL graphic programs.
There are now 105 tutorials in total, in the following categories:
- Different techniques to create good black and white pictures.
- How to colorize an entire black and white picture/icon, or color only parts of it, leaving the rest black and white.
- Various black and white icon tutorials.

I've noticed a lot of people asking many times a week how to create good black and white pictures/icons,(is also called gray scaling or desaturating), how to make them "pop" so to speak. Or how to add color/colorize an entire black and white picture or color only parts of it, leaving the rest black and white.
So I thought it was time to make a list of tutorials/guides people have made, that explains these things, and have everything in one place, so it's easier to find.
I did NOT make any of these, full credit goes to the makers of each tutorial!

I love Hawkeye. I love Daniel Day Lewis. And my God, does he blur badly.
Here's a tute which shows how to use textures, too *G*

In case no-one noticed....we are now affiliated with the STPMA board, and with resourcelove!
Yay for affiliates :-)
And now....a request.
I know everyone uses deviantart - so do I! But are there any LJ comms, specific base/mask/texture makers, and so on and so forth, that you would fall over, die, and generally be unable to make anything without?
Give me a list! And then we can have a lovely long post with all sources listed.....
Also, pity me. I have a cold *coughs pathetically*.

These are fun to make, it's a bit like Blue Peter!
I'm not always the soul of clarity, so please ask for further explanation....
Done in PSP but mostly translatable.

Two things that I have found very useful for backgrounds. I like to track down pictures of photography screens and what the movie makers call 'establishment shots'. That means a shot that shows where the action is taking place, usually without any people to clutter it up.
( Examples behind the cut.Collapse )
I've used the establishing shots for things that were completely out of their genre. An interior shot of the Buffyverse Dracula's Castle, got used for a Goblin King Jareth wallpaper, for example.
So, let's have a chat about backgrounds/textures :-)
What do people use? What effects? What base sources? Put up some examples and tutorials....
And if you like, a few base sources that you'd like to SEE made into textures.
So here's a comm where we can all try out ideas, share resources, get help, ask questions, and generally experiment!
Posting finished products is good too :-) so we can all share the wealth!
There are no rules as to how often you can post or what kind of files/image storage you need to use. As long as it's in a format that LJ accepts, that's fine!
And...I know this is harder work than everyone thinks, but be relaxed. Have fun. This is for learning and experimenting and not having to worry - so let's not!
