jak_sues - Profile (original) (raw)

Original characters are a part of fanfiction, and many of them are not only good, but almost necessary for the fic. People to fill in the roles that canon never provided. Good original characters are realistic, falliable, and fit in well with the rules of the world in which they're placed.

This community isn't about those.

jak_sues is dedicated to the sporking of those characters that simply don't fit in the Jak & Daxter world--characters that are too smart, too strong, too kind, and basically too much to believe. They warp canon to justify their existance, and in many cases make some or all of the canon characters obsolete.

Rather than gnash our teeth and wail the poor writing in our fandom, however, we choose to laugh at (and, more to the point, mercilessly mock) these offenders. If you've seen a particularly jarring Mary Sue or Gary Stu (one of the bad OCs mentioned above), please share it with us! We're always up for a giggle.

That said, a few rules.

I'm going to rip off a few of the rules from communities like marysues or deleterius because they've been Mary Sue communities for much longer and have a better idea of what to make rules about than I do. Hope that no one minds.

  1. Post all story exerpts and anything else that gets long behind an LJ-cut. (LJ-cuts are described here.)

  2. Don't post the entire story. It's against LiveJournal TOS to post someone else's entire story, no matter how short, so don't do it. Just excerpt the worst parts for us.

  3. Don't bait the author--that is, don't send them a link to a post where their story is being mocked. This is for us and not them, and sending someone a link just so they can see how much they're being mocked is kinda mean and likely to cause a headache for the management. (However, if they find it on their own, it's fine.)

  4. Moreover, we don't want you to go and flame the author. In fact, please don't.

  5. Keep it on topic, please! ^_^

  6. Don't link to a story in a LiveJournal post. We could get in trouble for that. deleterius advises the poster to tell members to ask for the the URL, instead.

  7. We're here to tear apart the story, not the author; remember that.

More rules if they become necessary, but I'll assume until it happens that you all know better than to steal bandwidth and stuff like that.

Please use the following form (stolen from marysues and deleterius . . . who, incidentally, stole it from marysues) for your submissions. I've added a "summary" section, 'cause sometimes those are the best part. >_>;

Also, remember to give us a link, unless it's an LJ story! :D

Any questions? akilika runs this community--you can contact her at selela7@yahoo.com. Do try to mention jak_sues, or some variant thereof, in the title--you might get filtered into Spam, and I want to be able to fish you out easily. (Whatever you do, DON'T mention cheap perscription medication. In netspeak. ;))

That's all!
