When did I start shipping Sirius/James and why: I started shipping Sirius/James mutually tonight (I already had Sirius->James as part of my headcanon, for a while). I was doing some plot work on my Severus/Lily AU fic and decided to try and nail down who I wanted to pair James up with in the end (since I didn't want him forever alone) and it suddenly struck me that I had not seriously considered the obvious: mutual Sirius/James! Of course! How did I not see it before? I love the Relationship Upgrade trope, Sirius/James goes perfectly with my #1 OTP of Severus/Lily, Sirius gets to be with the one he loves, and I'm hard pressed to think of who else I could have Sirius fall in love with besides James (somehow I can see James falling in love again if he doesn't get to be with Lily, but I had trouble picturing Sirius as anything other than a casual dating bachelor if he wasn't with James...or maybe Remus, but I prefer Tonks/Remus to Sirius/Remus, so...). Ah, now James/Lily makes my shipper heart sad for two reasons, LOL (although I support it in canon). Sirius/James is now officially my #2 OTP. :)
If anyone knows of any Sirius/James fics that go AU with an S/J happy ending (and don't include Lily bashing), please do rec them to me. Like with Severus/Lily, I'll read the canon compliant fics every now and then, when I can handle being gutted by the angst and/or when I can handle the bittersweetness of a momentary getting together before the relationship is ultimately doomed, but I prefer a fic where my shipper heart doesn't have to be sad (for either of my OTP's, but if I'm going for S/J I'll be focused on S/J). S/J fics that don't mention the impending doom and could be taking place in an AU where S/J wind up together, would work, too. Angst that resolves to a happy ending is also cool.
Feel free to rec me any really good S/J fics, though, even if they are likely to gut me or are bittersweet, as I can always add them to my 'to be read' pile, for later. ;)
