Parents having an intellectually disabled child experiences impact on their psychology and feel c... more Parents having an intellectually disabled child experiences impact on their psychology and feel continuously stressed. The sample of the intellectually disabled children was taken from the special schools of Jammu district of J&K state. Total of 60 children were selected and were categorized as groups as X, Y and Z. Group X comprises of 40 parents (20 mothers and 20 fathers) of profound and severe intellectual disabled children. Group Y comprises of 40 parents (20 mothers and 20 fathers) of mild and borderline intellectual disabled children. Group Z comprises of 40 parents (20 mothers and 20 fathers) of intellectually healthy children. Parents were administered with the Family Interview for Stress and Coping in Retardation, (FISC) Section 1, and the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS). The results indicated that the mothers of group X experiences more stress as compared to mothers of group Y and Z. Mothers in all the groups have comparatively more level of anxiety than the fathers....

The present research discusses the change in the terminology of intellectual disability at different times, medical aspects of intellectual disabilities including signs and symptoms, methods of diagnosis, tools for assessment, degrees, causes, associated health problems and prevalence of intellectual disabilities are highlighted. Educational aspects of intellectual disabilities including different methods of provision of education, special schools, integrated education, vocational education and employment of persons with intellectual disabilities in Indian setting are discussed. Purpose: The study aimed to assess the effect of an Aerobic Fitness Programme intervention on chi... more Purpose: The study aimed to assess the effect of an Aerobic Fitness Programme intervention on children with mild and moderate intellectual disabilities in Jammu, India.Method: In a pre-test post-test control group design, 66 children with mild and moderate intellectual disabilities, who fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria, were placed in control and experimental groups. A validated tool, the Test of Motor Proficiency, was used as a pre-test and post-test measure to assess the effect of the intervention.Results: The mean difference between the two groups of children with mild and moderate intellectual disabilities was significant. ANCOVA analysis indicated F (1,28) = 312.13, P =.00 in children with mild intellectual disabilities, and F (1,32) = 22.540, P =.00 in children with moderate intellectual disabilities. Purpose: The effect of music intervention on mild and moderate Intellectually disabled children w... more Purpose: The effect of music intervention on mild and moderate Intellectually disabled children was studied in non-randomized pre-test post-test control group design at an Indian state (Jammu) J&K.Method: The mild and moderate intellectual disabled children fulfilling inclusive and exclusive criteria were placed into control and experimental group. BASIC-MR part-B (pre-test) was administered on both the groups. Intervention in music activities using strategies from Applied Behaviour Analysis was introduced sequentially to the experimental group. Children in the control group were not involved in any additional activity. Both the groups were assessed after 6 months (post-test) to find out the effect of intervention.Results: The mean difference between both the groups of mild and moderate intellectually disabled children was significant.
