Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia (JASGP) fosters cross-cultural understanding and appreciation through rich and diverse educational programs.
Our Japanese language classes cater to all experience levels and offer a structured learning pathway to fluency. Young language enthusiasts can showcase their talents at the annual Nihongo Philacon, a Japanese language competition for middle and high school students.
We also offer hands-on workshops, from taiko drumming to cooking classes and more, providing experiences that bring the beauty of Japanese culture to life. Whether you are a beginner, enthusiast, or advanced learner, JASGP sponsors a variety of educational programs that foster a deeper appreciation of Japanese culture and offer a little something for everyone.
JASGP offers a Japanese Classroom program providing evening Japanese language classes for adults based on a college-style curriculum. There are three semesters of classes offered during the year. Classes are held online.
- Spring Semester (February-April)
- Summer Semester (May-July)
- Fall Semester (September-December)
JASGP frequently sponsors traditional Japanese tea ceremonies at the Shofuso Japanese Cultural Center in West Fairmount Park, Philadelphia. These demonstrations are often led by members from the Chado Urasenke Tankokai Philadelphia Association, headquartered in Kyoto, Japan. Ceremonies are also led on special occasions by practitioners from Omotesenke Domonkai Eastern Region USA.
