22 October 2001 - java_dev (original) (raw)

05:45 pm - pbrane - Forte4Java Hi all - this is my first post in this community (I'm a pretty novice programmer - I've worked for a few years in the computer industry, mostly in C++ dev, but I was such a slacker that I really feel like I don't know what I'm doing most of the time...), and I was wondering how many of you java folks use Sun's Forte IDE for java development?I really like it so far (my little brother is a java *wizard* who got me using it), at least as far as a highly java-syntax aware editor (and it's *great* for fast, quick and dirty WYSIWYG gui creation), but I'm having trouble using it as a thread aware debugger...Any advice on how to get it to play nice with debugging my multi-threaded project? Or another IDE that folks like? I'm not really that used to using an IDE of any sort - I grew up, programming-wise, on vi/make/gdb, but I'm not a cyber-mujahideen stuck on old ways. :)Thanks for any thoughts on the subject.
