I'm going to give you power over software development. You can wipe one thing from history. What do you dislike the most?

My choice is AJAX. Who on earth thought that it would be a good idea to re-write web apps to run in a web browser in JavaScript? You may be familiar with this saying, which only needs a small tweak, IMO:

Some people, when confronted with a problem, think "I know, I'll use regular expressionsAJAX." Now they have two problems.

But I suspect I'm in a minority there. What would you get rid of?
