ABSTRACT The priority of the bilingual intercultural education of the Nasa community in Colombia ... more ABSTRACT The priority of the bilingual intercultural education of the Nasa community in Colombia is to teach Spanish as a second language; however, there are no studies that evaluate this process. For this reason, this study sought to describe the level of appropriation of Spanish by the monolingual Nasa Yuwe–speaking learners who are in the first to third grades at the indigenous rural school of Farallones in the community of Pueblo Nuevo, municipality of Silvia Cauca (Colombia). This description was made through the diagnostic evaluation of learning Nasa Yuwe as the mother tongue and Spanish as the new language, in addition to administering a sociolinguistic survey to the parents and holding an interview with the teacher in charge of teaching these languages. The results showed oral mastery of Nasa Yuwe and an emphasis on teaching the sublexical aspects of Spanish to learn how to read and write it. This information suggests that Spanish learning is approached as a foreign language, not a second language, as its context views it.

Despite being imperfect in forms, they are the most versatile organisms in nature. While working on dematiaceous hyphomycetes from Murshidabad district, two specimens of Cladosporium had been collected which on critical examination characterised as two new species. Methods: The infected leaves with distinct symptoms were collected and dried to make herbarium specimens. The microscope slides were prepared in lacto-phenol cotton blue mixtures of the recognised species. The fungi, treated here were studied in their natural habitat on the leaves of Clitoria terrnatea and Hibiscus mutabilis. Results and Discussion: Two new species of Cladosporium viz. Cladosporium clitoriae Haldar and Cladosporium murshidabadense Haldar on Clitoria ternatea Land Hibiscus mutabilis L. respectively had been collected, figured and described in the present communication with notes on their phylogeny and ecology.

A descriptive research, based on the techniques of content analysis and focus groups was conducted with the parents of children who presented reading disabilities and on the other hand, parents of children with regular reading development. After the implementation of the program, parents of children with difficulties did not modify their expectations or reading habits, although children did. In conclusion, in spite of a reading intervention program can improve children academic ability, its impact in relation to the family group is limited.

Eighty students attending preschool (M = 5 years, SD = 0.40), first grade (M = 6 years, SD = 0.59) and second grade (M = 7 years, SD = 0.55) in a public institution participated in the study. All were evaluated with the Early Grade Reading Acquisition test, an ad hoc sociodemographic questionnaire and the language domain of the Child Neuropsychological Assessment battery. Multiple regression analysis showed that phonological awareness and years of education are the factors that explain reading performance of children in their early years of school. These findings highlight the importance of improving oral skills prior to early reading acquisition and contribute to enhancing the early reading skills of monolingual children with limited socioeconomic opportunities.

Results showed that low scores are common when multiple neuropsychological outcomes (tests and/or scores) are evaluated in healthy individuals. Clinicians should consider the higher probability of low scores in a given individual when evaluating learning and memory using various sets of scores to reduce false-positive diagnoses of cognitive deficits in pediatric populations.

The aim of this study is to describe the developmental trajectory of EF in four and six-year old Colombian children, and to highlight possible differences by socio-cultural variables such as age, sex, type of school or socio-economic status. One hundred and sixty-three normotypical children were tested using psychological tests validated for a Spanish population belonging to the Weschler and Luria Initial batteries. HJ-biplot analysis showed that EF developed commensurate with age and school grade, although differences by socio-economic status and type of school were evident.
