Monday, July 17th, 2006 3:58 pm - Kiwi a gogo jemkat I'm a New Zealander travelling to Hungary for study in November and then to Germany for a week to catch up with friends, and then to England for a week and a half to holiday.I'm really interested in finding out more info about gigs and clubs that are on at the beginning of Decemeber in London as I'll be there then and in all honesty NZ lacks a lot in the riot grrrl, homocore, queercore scene.I really wanted to go to Homo a Gogo this year, but I can't afford anymore overseas trips.What sort of things could anyone suggest?I've heard that Club Motherfucker is good in London. Saturday, December 24th, 2005 1:10 am - best $16 i've spent in a while.. losermilk i got my jd calendar today!i was planing on ordering it online (and not looking forward to watching for the mailgirl everyday until it got there) but instead i was in this store today, and i was getting ready to leave,when i turned to say bye to the woman at the register and there it was sitting on the counter! ha, i justabout squealed. cause im a dork. but, yeah, for any of you guys in l.a. there's a storein chinatown called ooga booga that is selling it. it cost about 16bucks altogether, six morethan online, but i think it's worth it if you can't wait. also the girl working there was kind enoughto give me a cool poster they had up annoucing the calendar's release party at the gallery in nyc described in the post below this one.the calendar is fucking amazing. there's way more to it than the '03 one, and it's more "professional"looking in that it's spiral bounded this time, has hi-quailty super glossy pics, and a spiffy layout desgin. but the best part is the journal featured which chronicles the whole RV journey they took. plus, like the last one, a hot as shit centerfold of jd (that folds out this time).all in all it's way more than i expected, and im so fucking excited to put thething up and use it for the next year.-hope you all get yours soon ;)hmm, also, after reading the whole journal, i'm kinda tempted to venture out to one of thequeer campgrounds they visited. even though i'm not exactly big on camping, somethingabout the idea of an all queer campground.. i mean, i didn't even know this existedcurrent mood: excited (they call it coolness) Thursday, December 22nd, 2005 8:27 pm - i call it visibility one_red_boot The other night my roommate and I went to a party at Deitch Gallery on Grand Street, celebrating the release of JD's new calendar. For anyone who might not know, it documents a road trip she took with bunch of lesbian friends. They hopped in an RV and drove around the country looking for a lesbian utopia...The gallery was small and packed, with huge versions of the pictures hanging on the walls. The photos are gorgeous: JD and friends swimming in rivers or sitting on picnic tables, photos of the gay friendly places or signs or people they met...very cool. We got there just in time to hear Lesbians On Ecstasy perform in the back room of the gallery, a fairly small space taken up mostly by the RV simulacrum they built out of wood and painted in rainbow stripes. I said hi to JD right before they started playing. She is so nice. The band peformed from inside it, and they rocked. Their sound is punkish electronica, almost metal at some points. And really funny. ("The lesbians are coming down the hill! The lesbians are coming down the hill!") The lead singer is so intense and crazy, totally dynamic to watch, and the crowd was going nuts. There was something very like a mosh pit happening during certain numbers, and then the crowd surfing began. Crowd surfing in an art gallery. I love it. Somebody picked up JD and one point, and she went sailing over the crowd in her blazer hand painted with rainbow stripes. The lead singer of the band surfed as well and got tossed back through the doorway of the RV stage and ripped off the top part of the door. Oops! Rock and roll. After the band finished, everyone stood around sweaty and breathless and exultant and then the strains of Ani Difranco's "Both Hands" started playing over the speakers. The singer from the band yelled, "Everybody sing! We all know the words!" Everyone started singing in the crowd, with JD and the band and people in the center of the crowd, holding hands above their heads and swaying in time to the music. It may have been the most lesbionic moment in the history of the world, and it was beautiful. Hahaha, and some guy standing next to me turned to me and said, "What is this?" "Ani Difranco," I told him, laughing. "OHHHH..."On our way out we saw Bitch and Jo from Le Tigre chatting, and then Vincent Gallo walked by. (Everyone should see "Buffalo '66"). Laura and I went home to drop off some of our stuff and chill before the afterparty, which was at M15, not too far from our apartment. It was a lot of fun, even though we had to battle wind and rain to get there. It was really spacious, all red walls and dim lighting and thundering music. JD was there, dancing her ass off, as well as Lesbians On Ecstasy and pretty much everyone from the party. It was a great night. (1 call it visibility | they call it coolness) Monday, December 12th, 2005 12:06 pm Sunday, December 11th, 2005 11:34 am - DAMMIT! one_red_boot Last night there was a party at an art gallery very close to my apartment celebrating the release of JD's new calendar. AND I missed it. DAMMIT!! It started at 7pm and I saw the listing in Time Out at 8:30, and it was over by the time I got there. I usually read all the Gay & Lesbian listings faithfully, but I didn't this weekend because one of my friends is in town, and we had other plans. SHIT! The gallery was featuring selected photos from the calendar, plus Lesbians On Ecstasy performed, and "suprise lesbian bands". I don't even know who it was, but it was probably some of my favorite artists, just because I didn't go.That being said, does anyone know yet when or where the calendar will be available? It was supposed to be for sale in the webstore by the beginning of December, but it's still not there. And if anyone has a copy of the 2003 calendar that they're willing to sell or know where I can get one, please let me know!
