While King Friday is an authoritarian leader, he is a caring ruler who understands that everyone needs limits and rules. That may have been Fred Rogers’ way of reminding us that rules help us stay safe, and that children especially need rules so they can stay in control.

![A page from a children's book about a dog that has a daycare. The text on the page reads:

The dogs live in different rooms. The dachshund Karo lives in Rosa's room. He likes girl dogs. That's why there are only girl dogs in his room: Molly, Esther and Rosa. Each dog has her own basket, and Karo takes turns lying with each of them.

Every dog in the daycare has its own blanket, too. And all the leashes hang on little hooks outside the door.](https://jeremyfelt.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/PXL_20250311_040806982-771x1024.jpg)

TIL the interactivity API: works in iOS Safari 14-16 with an ESM pollyfill (removed in WP 6.7); not in Safari 13 due to a bug in Safari’s Proxy(); and not in Safari 12 because of, well, everything—but!

You can still make the core nav block work in 12 with a few lines of JS that worked 8 years ago 🥃

The block editor is great for a lot of things, but it’s still super nice to get a feature request from an old client that’s still on a classic theme, like: Oh, PHP—give me 10 minutes!
