Just Joshin (original) (raw)
I woke this morning and realized that I hadn't posted on my LiveJournal account for months. Well, it turns out I hadn't posted in just about a year. In fact, I really haven't posted much here in several years -- which is sad because we used to have such wonderful discussions and debates. But times change and we all move on. For the past few years I've mostly been posting on my own blog. And you can continue to find me there: blog
(And as write this post I am reminded why I moved camp. Holy moly. The formatting issues just in a tiny post like this one. I'm having to type letters three and four times to get them to show up)
Anyway. You can still find me on Facebook, Goodreads and Twitter (Twitter is announcements only). I'd like to include the links, but once again LJ will not cooperate, so you can find them on the contacts page on my website www.joshlanyon.com. I hope you will want to stay in touch. I do -- but sadly it will not be here on LJ.
Again, thank you for the good times and great discussions. And here's to many more of them both.

How the heck can it be the end of the year already? But yet...here we are teetering on the precipice of 2014.
I hope your holidays were lovely and that you are facing your best ever year. I am getting over being sick yet AGAIN, and my New Year's resolution for 2014 is to make healthy choices. I started out pretty well after sabbatical, but then...it all kind of went to hell. So 2014 is a chance to do it all again -- only smarter.
That said, sick or not, I did finish my (adjusted) 2013 goals.
Merry Christmas, Darling! (Holiday Codas) are available for sale through Kindle, Nook, All Romance Ebooks and Smashwords. OR you can read them for free on my blog. Whatever you choose. The collected codas include recipes and the existing codas do get embellished and rewritten as we go along, so who knows what this collection will look like in five years, but I believe if you buy it once you're entitled to the updates, so it's not a bad bargain for $2.99.
The super-secret Adrien English project, STRANGER THINGS HAVE HAPPENED, is now available for order through Createspace and Amazon.com. The current version includes wonderful color illustrations by Catherine Dair. We are calling it the "Collector's Edition" because it is as expensive as hell at nearly 50.00acopy(althoughAmazoniscurrentlydiscountingtoabout50.00 a copy (although Amazon is currently discounting to about 50.00acopy(althoughAmazoniscurrentlydiscountingtoabout45.00). We have a second edition with black and white illustrations in the works. That will be a much more modestly priced $15.00. Hopefully that will be available for order within the next day or so.
WHO KILLED ROBERT HERSEY?
Book store assistant and all around bad boy Robert Hersey has been murdered -- and you are the #1 suspect! To clear your name and get your life back, you must figure out who killed your best friend and first love.
What happens next in the story all depends on the choices YOU make. How will the story end? It's all up to YOU. And the best part is you can keep reading and choosing until you've written your perfect ending.
The Dark Tide audio book is also newly released, which completes the Adrien English series in audio.
Oh! And Kick Start (Dangerous Ground 5) released early in the month and is available through Kindle, Nook, Smashwords and ARE. Also the audio files for Kick Start are complete, so the audio book should be coming out in January. Armed and Dangerous, the first four Dangerous Ground novellas are available in one audio collection as well.
So that was pretty much December. I'm looking forward to 2014 -- and I hope you are as well.
Happy New Year!

The first two books in the Adrien English series are now available in Japanese through Shinshokan. The artist is the brilliant Sakae Kusama (who also illustrated "Fair Game").
The Japanese title of Fatal Shadows is "Tenshi-no-kage"(Shadow of Angel). A Dangerous Thing is "Shisha-no-sasayaki"(Whisper of Ghost).
Both are available through Amazon Japan.

In our last chapter, Josh was writing checks his body couldn't cash. Yep. I got the flu. Big time. About 90 days ahead of schedule AND after I had committed to gettting a flu shot that very week. Which seems pretty damned unfair, but there you go. (How is it that the flu gods know this stuff?)
So...things are running behind schedule a bit. I do still plan to have Kick Start -- Dangerous Ground 5 -- out at the end of the month (Thanksgiving weekend, if all goes well). There's a snippet over on my blog. AND another snippet over on Amber Kell's blog -- that second bit takes place before Kick Start opens.
On the translation front, The Darkling Thrush is now available in French through MxM Bookmarks (you can see the lovely cover in the previous LJ post). It's had a name change, the title, The Shadow of the Sword, named for the legendary grimoire Colin Bliss searches for. Interesting, oui?
Coming in December is the no-longer-secret Adrien English surprise. You can find out more about that right here, along with a glimpse of Catherine Dair's wonderful cover art.
Also in December...per your requests, last year's holiday codas collected in one convenient package. There will be an additional few codas as well AND as promised, Astrid Amara, Nicole Kimberling, Ginn Hale and moi are all putting together holiday codas for our Irregulars stories. Those will be made available on my blog the first week of December. I've had sneak peeks at Ginn and Nicole's stories and they are utterly delightful, as you'd expect.
Oh! Speaking of collections, my Petit Mort stories (previously published through JCP) are now available in one tasty little digital batch. Sweet Spot can be purchased for about a dollar a story through Smashwords, All Romance Ebooks, B&N, and Amazon.
Finally, on the audio book front Death of a Pirate King is now available through Audible.com. This is pretty much everyone's favorite title in the series, and Chris Patton does a marvellous job with it. I think you will be very pleased. Only one more book to go! We also have In Sunshine or In Shadow, a collection of thirteen short stories read by four very talented narrators. Finally, Armed and Dangerous, the Dangerous Ground collection of stories is now complete and headed toward the sales channel.
I think that's about it for now. I can't stand here lollygagging if I'm going to hit all these deadlines. Have a terrific Monday! GET YOUR FLU SHOTS.

So. First things first. The Parting Glass, the sequel to In a Dark Wood is now available through Amazon, B&N, All Romance Ebooks, and Smashwords. It started as a Christmas coda, but then I realized I couldn't do the story justice, so I thought it would be a short story. But it was a little more complicated so it ended up at 23K novella. I hope you enjoy it.
Two and a half years ago, travel writer Timothy McShay let NYPD Detective Luke O'Brien talk him into hiking into the New Jersey Pine Barrens to face down a monster.
Now Tim and Luke meet again under very different circumstances. The old attraction is still there -- but so are some of Tim's monsters. Is it too late to find their way back to each other?
The illustrated Japanese translation of Don't Look Back will be available October 9th from Amazon Japan. The lovely, lovely cover can be seen in the post below.
On the audio book front...still no sign of I_n Sunshine or In Shadow,_ but In From the Cold (the I Spy collection) is now available through Audible.com Or if you'd like to just sample the first book, I Spy Something Bloody is available on its own as well. Chris Patton has completed work on Death of a Pirate King, so we'll probably see that mid-November. And Sean Crisden has completed work on The Dickens With Love, so again, maybe late November on that one. There is one more Dangerous Ground book to record and then the Armed and Dangerous collection will wend its way into the system as well. In fact, it might be going live about the time Kick Start comes out -- which is what I'm working on now.
Will is finally braced to bring Taylor home to meet the folks. Unfortunately, not every member of the Brandt clan loves Taylor the way Will does. Then again, not everyone loves the Brandts. In fact, someone has a score to settle -- and too bad for any former DS agents who get in the way when the bullets start to fly.
And that's pretty much where we are up to...now.
Hope you're having a beautiful Autumn. We went from blazing hot weather to cold in about the space of a week, and no real easing into the season.
First the big news. The edited and expanded (by about ten thousand words) of The Haunted Heart: Winter is now available for sale at all the usual places: Amazon, BarnesandNoble, Smashwords, All Romance Ebooks.
Still grieving over the sudden death of his lover, antiques dealer Flynn Ambrose moves to the old, ramshackle house on Pitch Pine Lane to catalog and sell the large inventory of arcane and oddball items that once filled his late uncle's mysterious museum. But not all the items are that easy to catalog. Or get rid of...
The Haunted Heart series. Four seasons. Four ghosts. Two hearts.
Winter. Since Alan died, Flynn isn't eating, isn't sleeping, and isn't spending a lot of time looking in mirrors. But maybe he should pay a little more attention — because something in that 18th Century mirror is looking at him.
Also, I gave into the pressure to make the short story "In Plain Sight" available in digital. This too can now be purchased through Amazon, BarnesandNoble Smashwords, All Romance Ebooks.
The audio books are proceeding apace, as we say. The short story anthology In Sunshine or In Shadow (which has four, count 'em four, narrators trading off) should be avaialable for sale by the middle of September. Meanwhile, In From the Cold is two thirds complete and Armed and Dangerous is halfway done. You can read an interview with Adrian Bisson at my blog.
(I'm really, really happy with the way these audio books are turning out, and I hope you will be too.)
And finally on the audio book front, I've just contracted Sean Crisden to narrate The Dickens With Love, which should be ready in time for Christmas.
Next up is a short story called The Parting Glass. This is a sequel to "In a Dark Wood." And then we're probably looking at Kick Start, the fifth Dangerous Ground novella. Either Kick Start or Boy with the Painful Tattoo, but either way BWTPT won't be out until the end of the year because of the formatting, editing, etc. But both these books ARE in the works. Don't let anyone tell you different.
So I think that's everything. I had a terrific vacation but it seems like such a long time ago. What are you all up to? Can you believe Summer is nearly past?

The (rough draft) of The Haunted Heart is now complete at Wattpad. I'll be leaving it up until I expand, edit and publish the final version through regular channels. So enjoy.
I've sold two projects to Carina Press for 2014. Stranger on the Shore (excerpt here) and the sequel to Fair Game (titled Fair Play).
Man Oh Man is now available in digital. You can purchase through Kindle, Nook, All Romance Ebooks and Smashwords.
I have an interview with Max Miller, the narrator of The Darkling Thrush and The Ghost Wore Yellow Socks over at my blog. And also in audio book news, I'm giving away an audio title from my backlist to a randomly selected follower every time my twitter followship jumps by 100 members.
AND I am catching up on all the episodes of the X-Files that I missed.
I think that's all. I'm writing like a maniac right now! A lot of what I'm doing seems to be laying the groundwork for next year, but yes, I am still planning to get The Boy With the Painful Tattoo and Kick Start out for this year. Really. I AM working on them.
In two weeks I am going on vacation. I can't even tell you how excited I am about that.
