Research paper thumbnail of Technologies and Methods for 3D Reconstruction in Archaeology

Communications in computer and information science, 2019

Digital Modeling of archaeological sites and the inherent cultural heritage has proved to be a to... more Digital Modeling of archaeological sites and the inherent cultural heritage has proved to be a tool of great importance not only for discovery of data but also for recovery and understanding of data from the archaeological site remains. The irreversible and destructive nature of excavation can be mitigated by using the techniques of 3D digital modeling using the available hardware and methodologies of computer vision and reconstruction. The widespread adoption of 3D technologies have facilitated not only timely and accurate recording methods but also storage and reusability of data that can be further used for collaborative and reconstructive tasks. This allows for preservation of the excavated objects, artefacts and landscapes and also for inter-disciplinary research. In this work we have put forth the numerous techniques that are used for 3D reconstruction of objects and artefacts, creation of virtual environments of heritage sites and underwater excavation incorporating not only unearth artefacts but also maps and location information to form a virtual and immersive environment.

The aim of using numerous forms of teaching-learning pedagogy is for justifying and achieving the learning outcomes of the course. We have tried to incorporate and change strategies of having instructor-led training (ILT) materials to student-centric learning. It explores various learning styles and dimensions so that the course content may be delivered to its fullest. Adaptation of different types of learning styles is implemented to promote flexibility with the instructor and help the students perceive a topic in various flavours. The chapter also puts forth topic-wise teaching-learning pedagogy availed, students' motivations, as justified from their informal feedbacks, recommended actions that have a positive influence in topic delivery and understanding and usage in exploring the subject in relation to other domain studies. Blooms' cognitive level is also mentioned to give a concise idea of the topic depth that would be followed in this particular course delivery. The chapter also discusses the concept development and exploration, courserelated material design and development, and evaluation and analysis. The measurement framework is developed on the basis of the following criteria of intuitive capability levels, in-class response, topic understanding (based on student's informal and formal feedback), and marks-based evaluations. This inherently incorporates certain evaluation practices followed in this course. Having a high cohesion with bioinformatics, the course helps in offering computational solutions to sustainability-related issues. Further, based on NBA requirements, the course outcomes are also measured as per their given directives. Based on student's interactions, the course was found to be popular and useful to students. The computer science and engineering and information technology (CSE and IT) students could easily relate the understanding of data structures and algorithms captured in the interdisciplinary course, whereas the biotechnology students could relate their core knowledge in bioinformatics, genes, genetics, protein, and other domain knowledge to the various algorithms that can help in addressing solutions. The subject presents a win-win situation for students as they get to work in a domain with a vast dataset and that can have a huge impact on the human lifestyle and lifespan understanding.

This system will enhance the spread of vaccination and reduce vaccine hesitancy. Information is coagulated and presented as statistical results that are presented in an engaging visualization form. Further, a reminder system has been set up to enable automated email service for parents by reminding them of proper and timely vaccinations. It collates the immunization data to present usable demographics for timely interventions, as may be necessary. The immunization perspective is retrained by easy storage and retrieval and quick remedial measures to contain the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases and reduction in child mortality. Statistical analysis has been done to predict immunization spread among different regions and detect any possible epidemic.

To assist such systems, Electroencephalography(EEG) based measures play an important role. In this study, the publicly available Database of Emotion Analysis using Physiological signals (DEAP), has been used to identify the human emotions such as valence(Positive/Negative) from the given recorded EEG signals. With the identification of such emotion, the feeling of goodness or badness related individual experiences with the situation can be identified from his/her brain signals. The different machine learning classifiers such as Random Forest, Decisions Trees, K-Nearest Neighbor (K-NN), Support Vector Machines (SVM), Naive Bayes and Neural Network have been used to identify and evaluate such emotions. The previous work done by the other authors on the same dataset using various quantitative approaches are compared with the approaches used in this study yields higher accuracy rates with the Random Forest, and Decision Tree. The effectiveness of each classifier in terms of statistical measures such as accuracy, F-score, etc. has been evaluated. The Random Forest classifier was found to outperform with an accuracy of 98%, closely followed by the Decision tree at 94% are the most effective classifiers in classifying the valence emotions of the EEG data for 6 subjects.

Moves that are done by an athlete or a sports person in the game such as his stride length and the stride frequency cannot be easily seen by a person and hence, detection and correction of the minute mistakes that are being made are overlooked. For instance, while doing push-ups a person"s head, neck, waist and ankle should be in a single straight line. In this paper, we discuss a sports training system which uses Microsoft Kinect for motion sensing. The infrared depth stream translates the presence of a user in real world, into digital space by tracking his/her joint coordinates. As per our empirical studies, Kinect maps the x,y and z coordinates of 20 primary joints of the body. This data forms the basis of our calculations as elaborated in the literature. This work gives a basis of how movements and postures may be corrected by the use of sensors like Kinect in an effective and efficient manner.

Motifs are the small set of immunity gene present in the DNA sequences as a binding site and turn on whenever the organism gets infected. Hence, to identify these motifs for transcription factors is of great biological importance. Recently, this field of bio-informatics has grown significantly and many algorithms have been proposed to solve this problem. However, high complexity is the most challenging aspect of this problem which still grabs the attention of many researchers. This paper presents a proficient algorithm that extracts binding sites in a set of DNA sequences for transcription factors using some operations on the DNA sequences. The motif we work on is of known length, un-gapped and non-mutated. The proposed algorithm does some preprocessing and formulates an adjacency list for finding such sites. Although any two randomly selected sequences can be used for preprocessing, we have used fir...

In general, densely populated regions generate tons of plastic waste daily, which is sometimes disposed of on land or diverged to sea. Most of the plastics created in the form of waste have complex degradation behavior and are non-biodegradable by nature. These remain intact in the environment for a long time span and potentially originate complications within terrestrial and marine life ecosystems. The strategic management of plastic waste and recycling can preserve environmental species and associated costs. The key contribution in this work focuses on ongoing efforts to utilize plastic waste by introducing blockchain during plastic waste recycling. It is proposed that the efficiency of plastic recycling can be improved enormously by using the blockchain phenomenon. Automation for the segregation and collection of plastic waste can effectively establish a globally recognizable tool using blockchain-based applications. Collection and sort...
