Karate Combat Announces New Grappling Promotion With Matches In Famous Pit - Jitsmagazine.com (original) (raw)

Karate Combat has just announced that they are dipping their toes into the world of professional grappling with a brand new promotion. Although the promotion is just a few years old, they have already managed to reach a fantastic level of notoriety and have become the biggest name in Karate. Some of this success is down to the amount of production that they put into a sport that hasn’t had that level of attention before, but another huge reason is their famous pit. Every match at Karate Combat events takes place in a matted area that is actually sunken deeper into the ground, with walls all around it that are angled at 45 degrees.

It’s an incredibly unique setting and it encourages competitors to make good use of of cutting off space, without actually having them propped up against ropes or cage walls. Instead, the slanted walls of the pit allow fighters to feel when they’re approaching the end of the area and adjust accordingly without being trapped. It keeps the action flowing in a great way and it has an interested impact on grappling exchanges too, as Karate Combat is the only striking sport that allows for grounded strikes. This means that fans do see glimpses of Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling techniques as fighters attempt to stand up or avoid strikes from the top until the referee stands them up.

Now Karate Combat has decided to test out an entirely new approach, as they’ve decided to book a series of grappling matches that will take place in the pit and immediately before their next event on January 26th, 2024. The new promotion is to be called Pit Submission Series and it will be hosted by both Joao Miyao and Paulo Miyao, both of whom are known for attending Karate Combat events as spectators. This will no doubt be attracting a ton of interest, primarily as fans will get to see what extended grappling exchanges would look like in the pit.
