The JMA Wireless Dome officially took over as the name of Syracuse University’s sports and entertainment venue with an announcement on May 19, 2022.

Carrier Corporation contributed a 2.75mnaminggiftover40yearsagotohelpbuildthenewfacility.Thenamerightsdealwasoneofthefirstofitskindandhaslongthoughttobeoneoftheworstdealsinsportshistoryasthenamingrightsweremeanttocontinueinperpetuity.Forcomparison,SyracuseACCfoeNCStaterecentlyreacheda20−yearagreementwithPNCBankworth2.75m naming gift over 40 years ago to help build the new facility. The name rights deal was one of the first of its kind and has long thought to be one of the worst deals in sports history as the naming rights were meant to continue in perpetuity. For comparison, Syracuse ACC foe NC State recently reached a 20-year agreement with PNC Bank worth 2.75mnaminggiftover40yearsagotohelpbuildthenewfacility.Thenamerightsdealwasoneofthefirstofitskindandhaslongthoughttobeoneoftheworstdealsinsportshistoryasthenamingrightsweremeanttocontinueinperpetuity.Forcomparison,SyracuseACCfoeNCStaterecentlyreacheda20−yearagreementwithPNCBankworth80 million.

Neither Syracuse University or JMA Wireless have disclosed the financial aspects of the new agreement.

The Carrier Dome’s storied history includes being the home to Syracuse University Men’s Basketball, Football, Lacrosse and the Women’s Basketball and Lacrosse teams. In 2002, the basketball court was named after Men’s Basketball Coach Jim Boeheim while in 2009, the football field turf was dedicated to Heisman Trophy winner Ernie Davis.
