Metaverse, a virtual shared space integrating augmented reality and virtual reality technologies,... more Metaverse, a virtual shared space integrating augmented reality and virtual reality technologies, is often hailed as the “Internet of the future” for its potential to revolutionize online communication, collaboration, learning, and work. However, despite its promising strategic and business applications, there is a dearth of empirical evidence for evaluating its educational value. This qualitative study examined the impact of Metaverse on teaching and learning by examining its advantages and challenges. The outcomes highlight Metaverse’s remarkable potential for personalized and adaptive learning thanks to its immersive and interactive capabilities. An analysis of the existing literature suggests that Metaverse can create engaging learning experiences in which students can explore tailored virtual environments and interact within them. Abstract The heterogeneous nature of emerging technologies viz internet connections has increased... more Abstract The heterogeneous nature of emerging technologies viz internet connections has increased the propensities for information technology services to be available to humans, in a wide range of applications. The nascent development of digitization and proliferation of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) solution in manufacturing practices (e.g., Internet of Production), draws concerns. The authors provide inferential justifications for the application of internet protocols to transform business operations that has to do with sustainable production and other manufacturing services in the near future. The paper is a contribution to the knowledge of IoT architecture, with emphasis on the tendencies to influence organizational effectiveness and diversify systems integration. It is imperative to apply the latest innovative technologies, and the IoT based services improvement to lead the industrial revolution campaign that will allow manufacturing SMEs to operate sustainably.

A brief study on rolling operation in metal forming and equipment has been conducted. The manufac... more A brief study on rolling operation in metal forming and equipment has been conducted. The manufacturing disposition, whether in small, and large scale, contributes tremendously to national development and as well, is the most envisaged sector to promulgate the fourth industrial revolution concepts. Within the industrial manufacturing sector, a wide variety of products are required in large quantities for different application, both daily and longer durations. The present article aimed to access rolling techniques in metal forming operation, or as part of the industrial manufacturing process. Comparison in performance of different rolling methods, while analyzing their defects, and areas of application of rolled products or components is presented. Hence, the functionality and working principle of Rolling as manufacturing, or shaping process are discussed, and prospect for future industrialization suggested. The research is ascensive of the relationship between human, and machine handling, equipment handling, material handling and understanding of the type of defect in rolling to meet the increase in operational performance, even as the processes become more advanced.

The CSP technologies are highly dependent on the efficient reflector and receiver designs, working medium and thermal storage technologies to produce intermittent electrical power with several options like hybrid, peak load operations, co-generation, etcetera. The receivers have smaller aperture areas such that they operate under higher concentration ratios to produce high temperature at the focus. Construction materials of receiver and heat transfer mediums are vital to extracting more solar energy from the mirror fields or parabolic collectors. Phase change materials (PCM) are found to have numerous applications in the energy collection and storage systems. This article provides the recent developments in the concentrated solar receivers and the future direction in the receiver technology.

Abstract In the recent years, there have been considerable efforts all over the world to reuse by... more Abstract In the recent years, there have been considerable efforts all over the world to reuse by-products in order to sustainably conserve our environment. In this sense, rice husk is also an agricultural bi-product and its ash after being burnt has widely been used to replace Portland cement in the construction industry due to the fact that it is rich in pozzolanic content. However, no studies have been conducted to identify the definite temperatures to which rice husk can be heated to produce the perfect qualities required for enhancement of concrete. This prompted us to find out whether utilizing ground unburnt rice husk would as well be fit to be used in partial replacement of cement. This would save time and other resources used in heating rice husk to ash. This study evaluates how different contents of rice husk added to concrete may influence its workability, water absorption and compressive strength of concrete with 0, 1.5, 2.5, 5, 7.5 & 10% cement replacement at fixed water cement plus ground rice husk at 0.5. The results were compared to a controlled sample and the viability of adding ground rice husk to concrete was verified. For water absorption the results were negative as addition of ground un burnt rice husk resulted in increasing water absorption of concrete which is generally not good for its durability purposes. Values of workability varied with addition of ground un burnt rice husk but still within the allowable limits for concrete to be used on some construction works. Also, there was a break through on the compressive strength with 1.5% replacement of cement with ground un burnt rice husk achieving the target strength. Basing on this, we can therefore infer that cement can be reduced up to 15% with un burnt ground rice husk without compromising compressive strength requirements of concrete more especially in situations where water absorption is not very important.

The result of inadequate waste disposal scheme threatens human settlement both in the urban and rural dwelling, and the environmental and social impact worsens as world population increases. There is no doubt that every person is an essential contributor to this problem. Regardless, to generate waste is one thing, the type of waste generated is another, and yet also the way it is generated, managed or disposed-off, entirely a different issue. The present study uses a quantitative research approach and collects data from Mukono town which is located within east of the central business district of Kampala. In this community, there are challenges of lean assets to administer their solid wastes, leading to unrestrained dumping, also poor management of wastes, thereby contributing to environmental pollution, and the spread of diseases, land degradation, and unhealthy living. The research evaluates, analyzed and characterizes the composition of the existing SWM practices in Mukono municipality. The results show that up to 50000 m3 of composting landfill space is required to handle the solid waste disposal of not less than 25023.6 tons generated in Mukono district. The research also recommends ways to alleviate some of the present solid waste management concerns.
