[**Tags**|writing: writing]...hit me with it.How do you usually start your stories? A title, a certain scene or a piece of dialog? Or something completely different? Is it always the same or do you have different approaches?Inquiring minds (yes, I consider myself plural *g*) want to know.Personally, I'm all over the map with this. I don't have a singular approach, but granted, I'm riding shotgun with my musae most of the time anyway. *g*[_This entry was also posted at http://juleself.dreamwidth.org/392787.html. [**Tags**|nice things: ppotd 2010]Happy Birthday to Clarence Clemons!!!25 years ago, I listened to this song and thought "Shit, this is cool! I want to learn to play sax like that!" Unfortunately, my family couldn't afford to pay for music lessons and when I had enough money to pay for it myself, I rather travelled the world to see my heroes live. But then, it's a good thing to have dreams to chase, right?

[**Tags**|nice things: ppotd 2010]Well, let's just assume that timestamp is accurate. *curses her circadian rhythm*Happy Birthday to Simone de Beauvoir, Joan Baez and Jimmy Page!Manowar are one of my all-time guilty pleasures when it comes to music and have been for over 20 years now. There are only a handful of songs I truly like and this is one of them:Master of the Windby ManowarIn the silence of the darknessWhen all are fast asleepI live inside a dreamCalling to your spiritAs the sail calls the windHear the angels singFar beyond the sunAcross the western skyReach into the blacknessFind the silver lineIn a voice I whisperA candle in the nightWe'll carry all our dreamsOn a single beam of lightClose your eyesLook into the dreamWinds of changeWill winds of fortune bringFly away to a rainbow in the skyGold is at the endFor each of us to findThere the road beginsWhere another one will endHere the four winds knowWho will break and who will bendAll to be the master of the windFalling starsNow light my wayMy life was written on the windClouds above, clouds belowHigh ascend the dreams withinWhen the wind fillS the skyThe clouds will move asideAnd there will be the road to all our dreamsAnd for any day that stingsTwo better days it bringsNothing is as bad as it seemsClose your eyes, look into the dreamWinds of change will winds of fortune bringFly away to a rainbow in the skyGold is at the endFor each of us to findThere the road beginsWhere another one will endHere the four winds knowWho will break and who will bendAll to be the master of the windYouTube link for the interested

[**Tags**|nice things: ppotd 2010]Happy Birthday, Elvis Presley! And Happy Birthday to Shirley Bassey, Stephen Hawking, David Bowie and John McTiernan as well!Today... some more poetry:_If you think you are beaten, you areIf you think you dare not, you don't,If you like to win, but you think you can'tIt is almost certain you won't.If you think you'll lose, you're lostFor out of the world we find,Success begins with a fellow's willIt's all in the state of mind.If you think you are outclassed, you areYou've got to think high to rise,You've got to be sure of yourself beforeYou can ever win a prize.Life's battles don't always goTo the stronger or faster man,But soon or late the man who winsIs the man who thinks he can!_-Walter D. [**Tags**|nice things: ppotd 2010]January 6 means Happy Birthday to Rowan Atkinson and Anthony Minghella. Today is Epiphany, or Nollaig Beagh (Little Christmas) if you're Irish. And it's Phi Day. Well, Phi Day could also be on June 18, depending on who you ask, but I like this one better because it's a direct transposition from the number to the date. And who could explain better the importance of the Golden Ratio than Charlie Eppes?I'm certainly biased here, but this never fails to put a smile on my face. :-)

[**Tags**|nice things: ppotd 2010]Today, I say: Happy Birthday to Umberto Eco (even though Foucault's Pendulum almost killed me... eh, since I never finished it, it might still!) and Roger Spottiswood (well, only because he directed Turner & Hooch) and Diane Keaton (even 22 years later, I still have a soft spot for Baby Boom) and Joe Flanigan and Paul McGillion. *g* And, Happy Birthday to Clancy Brown who, among many, many other things is the voice of Mr. Eugene Kraps but he'll always be Kurgar for me. ;-)"Forever is our today..." or, as Alimi Ballard put it so nicely on Twitter: "This LIFE isn't a DRESS REHEARSAL!! THIS...IS...IT..:) ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!"

Yes, that Schrödinger. 1933 Nobel Laureate, famous for his achievements in quantum physics and his 1944 book What is life? which inspired the discovery of the double helix structure of DNA. And of course, famous for Schrödinger cat.( Which is why we're having cats today:Collapse )**
