Julian Theater Company Keeps Performance Arts Alive (original) (raw)
‘Spoon River Anthology’ Set for March 4-6
We at the Julian Theater Company are sad to have to make the decision not to produce a longtime JTC tradition, "A Christmas Carol,” by Charles Dickens.
Due to San Diego County COVID-19 restrictions and many unknowable variables related to the pandemic, we decided it was best to postpone this Christmas classic until 2022. In the meantime, a video of our 2019 production of "A Christmas Carol” is available to view for free on our Julian Theater Company Facebook page.
Because of our passion for theater and love of performance, my wife, Deb, and I have offered several Livestream productions on JTC’s Facebook page with our JTC family participating remotely via Zoom with songs, dances, music and stories.
Now, we are excited to have been invited to assist Robin Boland and Eric Jones with a live, in-person, stage production of "Spoon River Anthology,” by Edgar Lee Masters. This production will be presented at Julian Town Hall on March 4, 5 and 6. But first, an audition will be held! All thespians between the ages of 16 and 100 are invited to try out at town hall on Sunday, Jan. 9, from 5 to 7 p.m.
This classic play is for mature audiences due to subject matter — note that no nudity or bad language is used. Information on the play and its origin story can be found online by searching for "Spoon River Anthology,” by Edger Lee Masters, and "Spoon River Anthology,” adapted and arranged by Charles Aidman.
Ticket proceeds will be used to cover modest production costs and the rest will be donated to the Julian Town Hall Renovation project. There will be notices in the local press and on the JTC Facebook page and Julian Chamber of Commerce website about how and where to purchase tickets.
We hope to see you at our "Spoon River Anthology” production and more for 2022! Deb’s hope is to keep theater alive in Julian until she’s no longer able to keep up with the demands, and then to pass the production torch to the next generation of artists who will take over JTC and pledge to keep performing arts active here in our special town of Julian!
Julian Theater Company would like to send out a big thank you to our JTC family and supporters, and we wish everyone a happy new year!
