It is involved in several metabolic pathways for the production of biologically active compounds such as creatine, nitric oxide, ornithine, glutamate, agmatine, citrulline and polyamines. Regarding this all, we review the crucial role of arginine in metabolism, diversified prospective uses and pharmacological applications. Arginine plays an important role in the treatment of tumorigenesis, asthama, gastric, erectile dysfunction, apoptosis, melanoma and congestive heart failure. Ability to produce nitric oxide offers various applications as in the prevention of age and hair loss. It serves as a precursor of creatine with ergogenic potential. The ability to increase endogenous growth hormone makes arginine a preferred supplement for the improvement of physical performance. In the present study details about the pharmacological applications of arginine based on modern scien...

Bunting (E. aureum) is an ornamental foliage rich in phytoconstituents and serves as a potential source of bioactive compounds possessing beneficial biological activities. The present study was carried out to isolate the pyrrolidine alkaloids of leaves with in vitro antitermite and antirepellant efficacy on paper and soil by direct-choice and no-choice assay. Spectrometric analysis of alkaloid fractions via Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-VIS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) helped in the characterization of pyrrolidine alkaloids. Superior antitermite activities were observed, associated with high levels of 5-Oxoproline as compare to Methyl 5-oxo-2pyrrolidinecarboxylate. Presence of higher contents of 4-Morpholineethanol showed effective antitermite activity and even low levels of 3-Amino-4-Hydroxybutanoic acid and 1H-1,2,4-Triazol-3-amine, N-methyl-also exposed significant activities for repellence and mortality of termites. Repellence and percentage mortality of termites by these alkaloid fractions were similar in results when compared with the standard alkaloid Nicotine and chemical termiticide Monocrotophos. These findings were also supported by SEM studies. Pyrrolidine alkaloids present in E. aureum have exposed strong in vitro antitermite and antirepellant activities against subterranean termites Odontotermes obesus. These findings strongly support the use of E. aureum to bear potential termiticidal properties, however further details need to be carried out. Keywordszzzz Epipremnum aureum Á Pyrrolidine alkaloids Á Gas chromatography mass spectroscopy Á Antirepellant Á Antitermite Á Scanning electron microscope Significance statement Epipremnum aureum contains bioactive compound possessing beneficial activities. Repellence and percentage mortality of termites by E. aureum were supported by SEM studies. Pyrrolidine alkaloids possess strong in vitro antitermite activities against Odontotermes obesus. The present work will contribute in the use of E. aureum as environmentally safe approach for termite control.

The present study was aimed to focus on the extraction and screening of alkaloids from Epipremnum aureum (Linden and Andre) Bunting. It has been observed that the plant is very rich in alkaloids and the modified method employed for the extraction of alkaloid is efficient and selective, where the interference of other secondary metabolites is negligible. The identification of each compound was made through gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). A total of twenty six structurally different alkaloids were identified for the first time from this plant. E. aureum is highly rich in alkaloids and twenty six different alkaloids were characterized. The present study may help in the field of natural products’ chemistry and pharmaceuticals as well as drug discovery science and technology.

Utilization, extraction and chelation activity of weeds rich in secondary metabolites would be useful for cleaning of agricultural land by harnessing their phytoremediation properties. Local weeds present on the water pond site of flyash discharge of industries can be utilized for phytoremediation by public, farmers and industries for the benefit of humans and the environment. The ultimate purpose of paper is to focus on a water pollution management technology that is low-tech, cheap and above all ecologically friendly.

It is prescribed for many diseases such as general debility, fever, diabetes, dyspepsia, urinary infections, jaundice and skin diseases. This paper presents a critical review on biological description and chemical constituents of T. cordifolia with special emphasis on its ayurvedic properties and applications in the pharmaceutical sector.
