This review explores the possibility of using natural plant compounds with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-glycation, and anti-neurodegenerative properties to slow down the onset of age-related changes. Age-related changes such as a decrease in mental abilities, the development of inflammatory processes, and increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes have a significant impact on maintaining quality of life. Herbal preparations can play an essential role in preventing and treating neurodegenerative diseases that accompany age-related changes, including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Medicinal plants have known sedative, muscle relaxant, neuroprotective, nootropic, and antiparkinsonian properties. The secondary metabolites, mainly polyphenolic compounds, are valuable substances for the development of new anti-inflammatory and hypoglycemic agents. Understa...

Significant physical loads contributed to the accumulation of lipid peroxidation products, by leading to oxidative stress, which was an adverse predictor of health. The obtained data prove that the indices of the state of the antioxidant system are a marker of health and criteria of population life quality.

Student morbidity during adaptation to the weather and climate conditions of the Baltic Sea is ev... more Student morbidity during adaptation to the weather and climate conditions of the Baltic Sea is evaluated from 2012 to 2017 in this study. The research used the Steadman apparent temperature method to analyse the health impact of physical factors and investigated student morbidity in three Kaliningrad universities that had different percentage responses to the local climate change. Apparent temperatures (T) with different combinations of meteorological parameters significantly deviated from monthly average temperatures. For the average temperature and maximum wind speed, apparent temperatures were found to be negative from September to March. In January and February, they were 7.8–16.8 times lower than the average T. With humidity (e.g., RH) unchanged, different combinations of physical factor posed no danger to a person dressed for the weather conditions. In January, at the minimum T and maximum wind speed (Uh), frostbite was possible after 20–30 of exposure. Apparent T close to the threshold value was observed in December and February. The climate of the Kaliningrad enclave is not the best for human health conditions. In the winter, there are serious risks of frostbite in uncovered parts of the body when threshold conditions were not met. Results suggested that disease susceptibility in non-local students representing all the universities was 1.2–1.7 times higher than these of locals students. Also, a relationship between morbidity and percentage of non-local students is obtained, suggesting that the weather and climate conditions will likely adversely affect human health during climate change adaptation that can likely increase the morbidity rate, particularly among the students.

Changes in a number of cytokines are shown not only during inflammation: during physical exertion or stress; moderate hypoxia Material and methods. We evaluated the rates of interleukins 6 and 8 and white blood among cadets of a military educational institution during adaptation, dividing into 2 stages: initial, 2 and 3 months of observation, as well as the pre-seasonal - rise-decrease in the incidence of respiratory diseases (4-6 months). By the response of white blood, the state of non-specific adaptive reactions of the body was assessed. Results. When IL-6 level was within normal limits, it increased 1.5 times after 2 months (not significantly), which was probably due to a stress response. During this period, adequate adaptive processes proceeded, confirmed by indices of the absolute content and percentage of lymphocytes characterizing non-specific adaptive responses of the body. The average IL-8 was within normal limits. However, in 9.1% of individuals, it initiall...

The issues of the relationship of students' doing physical education at a special medical group weekly physical activity with the type of disease have not been sufficiently studied. The aim is to evaluate weekly physical activity, morphofunctional indicators and physical fitness of female students with various diseases in a year after the PE classes termination at the university. Materials and methods. During performing the research project 120 Russian girls aged 18-19, who had previously been engaged in physical education in a special medical group for 2 years were examined. Their weekly physical activity was studied using the IPAQ-SF questionnaire. The level of metabolic equivalent has been determined. The assessment of anthropometric, functional indicators of the cardiorespiratory system and motor qualities is given. Reserarch results. It was found that a year after the training sessions termination at the Department of Physical Culture, girls with visual diseases have the greatest weekly physical activity. The lowest level of metabolic equivalent was registered in girls with cardiovascular diseases and pathology of the respiratory system. They also have the lowest indicators of functional body fitness. Girls with cardiorespiratory pathology have the lowest values of physical fitness tests. Therefore, they have a risk of further deterioration of somatic health. Conclusion. A year after the compulsory PE classes termination at the university, female students with pathology of the cardiorespiratory system organs had the lowest indicators of weekly physical activity, the level of metabolic equivalent, morphofunctional indicators and motor qualities, compared with the results of girls' with other diseases screening. Until the end of compulsory PE classes, teachers of physical culture departments need to increase female students' motivation for physical activity, especially among girls with diseases of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems to improve the quality of health throughout life.

Research paper thumbnail of RISK ASSESSMENT FOR INCIDENCE WITH COMMUNITY-ACQUIRED PNEUMONIA IN ORGANIZED COMMUNITIES AMONG THIER MEMBERS ADAPTING TO TRAINING AND ACCLIMATIZATION

HEALTH RISK ANALYSIS, 2019

There is a pressing issue in prevention medicine related to improving approaches to detecting ris... more There is a pressing issue in prevention medicine related to improving approaches to detecting risk factors and reducing incidence with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). Such approaches include analyzing health risks associated with
adverse impacts exerted by environmental factors.
Our research goal was to assess incidence with CAP in initially healthy organized communities made up of cadets under influences exerted by a set of factors related to a body adapting to training at higher military educational establishments
as well as to specific sea climate in Kaliningrad enclave.
We applied epidemiologic analysis to assess incidence with CAP in educational establishments with different training
conditions. We determined peculiarities related to registering disease cases among local students and those who came from
other Russian regions; we also comparatively analyzed annual incidence among first-year cadets.
Incidence among first- and second-year cadets was authentically higher than among senior ones. First-year students
accounted for the greatest share in the overall incidence and it proved that adaptation to training was a truly significant
factor. Incidence among cadets from other regions was higher and it proved that acclimatization to specific climatic and
weather conditions was also a significant factor. Higher incidence among cadets who had poorer training conditions during
their first and second training year confirmed that training conditions could also be considered a risk factor that caused
CAP. Two peaks in annual morbidity among first years cadets were likely due to both a factor related to a new organized
community formation and seasonal factors.
The fact that the disease is detected among cadets at each year makes it necessary to analyze incidence with CAP in
order to detect probable “specific” risk factors and to provide differentiated prevention for each year.

In Dagestan heat losses in winter under average winds were higher than optimal in the highest alpine region; but when winds reached their maximum power, such losses increased 1.35-1.48 times and overcooling was very much possible in alpine regions (WCI was higher than 1,190.0 kcal/m2 ∙ h). In spring heat loss was higher than its optimal level in highlands under wind gusts. One could feel real discomfort in autumn at 1,661 meters high. Body chilling was quite possible in winter in Kaliningrad region when winds blew at their maximum; and discomfort could occur under wind gusts in spring and autumn. As per CC parameter, frostbites risk was moderate in Dagestan in winter under average winds; and there was no such risk in autumn and spring. However, if winds were at maximum, the most critical risks occurred in Makhachkala district and in Khunsakhskiy district, and in Kaliningrad region as well. Risk was moderate in Kaspiyskiy district and Akhtyinskiy district. In spring and autumn risk was moderate under maximum winds in all Dagestan districts, but it was close to being critical in Kaliningrad region. Nowadays, influences exerted by physical factors are determined as per temperature and wind speed. We detected that these influences could be adverse under different winds and could even become critical. Chilling and frostbite can occur even if a person is in winter clothing. However, influence exerted by air humidity is not taken into account. We can assume that this factor will potentiate influences exerted by temperature and wind, and it calls for working out a complex assessment of environmental factors in different seasons.

Until the end of compulsory PE classes, teachers of physical culture departments need to increase female students' motivation for physical activity, especially among girls with diseases of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems to improve the quality of health throughout life.

In January and February, they were 7.8-16.8 times lower than the average T. With humidity (e.g., RH) unchanged, different combinations of physical factor posed no danger to a person dressed for the weather conditions. In January, at the minimum T and maximum wind speed (Uh), frostbite was possible after 20-30 of exposure. Apparent T close to the threshold value was observed in December and February. The climate of the Kaliningrad enclave is not the best for human health conditions. In the winter, there are serious risks of frostbite in uncovered parts of the body when threshold conditions were not met. Results suggested that disease susceptibility in non-local students representing all the universities was 1.2-1.7 times higher than these of locals students. Also, a relationship between morbidity and percentage of non-local students is obtained, suggesting that the weather and climate conditions will likely adversely affect human health during climate change adaptation that can likely increase the morbidity rate, particularly among the students.

HEALTH RISK ANALYSIS, 2019

HEALTH RISK ANALYSIS, 2018

We can assume that this factor will potentiate influences exerted by temperature and wind, and it calls for working out a complex assessment of environmental factors in different seasons.

revealed the increase of the production of the stress hormone cortisol, that indicates to the prevalence of catabolic
processes in the body, the decrease in saturation with zinc, copper, iron, disturbing the activity of enzyme link,
and the reduction of the saturation of the body with vitamins A and E that causes the deterioration of the state of
low-molecular link of antioxidant protection. Significant physical loads contributed to the accumulation of lipid
peroxidation products, by leading to oxidative stress, which was an adverse predictor of health. The obtained data
prove that the indices of the state of the antioxidant system are a marker of health and criteria of population life

hypoxia
Material and methods. We evaluated the rates of interleukins 6 and 8 and white blood among cadets of a military educational institution
during adaptation, dividing into 2 stages: initial, 2 and 3 months of observation, as well as the pre-seasonal - rise-decrease in the incidence
of respiratory diseases (4-6 months). By the response of white blood, the state of non-specific adaptive reactions of the body was assessed.
Results. When IL-6 level was within normal limits, it increased 1.5 times after 2 months (not significantly), which was probably due to a
stress response. During this period, adequate adaptive processes proceeded, confirmed by indices of the absolute content and percentage of
lymphocytes characterizing non-specific adaptive responses of the body. The average IL-8 was within normal limits. However, in 9.1% of
individuals, it initially exceeded or was at the level of the upper limit of normal; in the pre-season period it increased by 29.1% ((p = 0.042):
an increase of 63.6%, of which 42.5% - to the level of the upper limit of the norm or above it. In 30.0%, the leukocytes were above the norm,
which proved the infection of the team members. At the peak and with a decrease in the incidence of interleukin, IL-6 increased within normal
limits, IL-8 decreased. IL-8 exceeded the norm in patients and individuals after clinical recovery. A group of persons was determined
in whom it spent 4-6 months of observation within the upper limit of the norm or exceeded it. Among them were people who did not apply for
illness. The second group of individuals with no signs of disease, but with high IL-8 values, was isolated in the pre-season period.
