It is known that foods have three main functions; a) supporting growth and development, b) providing energy, c) organizing metabolism (Wiseman, 2008). Although it is common thought that carbohydrates and fatty foods are more likely to cause obesity due to high intake of metabolic factors, obesity is actually associated with a number of behaviors. For example; while obesity is associated with consumption of soft drinks in the positive direction, it is related with breakfast, fruit and vegetable consumption negatively (Niklas et al., 1998. Despite the fact that it is not possible to change the genetic structures of obese individuals; eating behavior/habit, physical activity level and other environmental factors can be changed positively and healthy lifestyle behaviors can be gained. Fitness athletes are supposed to have good nutr...

Artistic Gymnastic (AG) course is one of these compulsory courses. Students attending this course need some important motor skillcompetence. If students don’t have these skill competences, they are not efficient and productive through course term, even they get injured seriously (Sevim, 2007). Specific training program should be used to prevent injuries and improve their motor skills (Fink, 1985). Aim of this study was to examine effects of specific AG training focused on strength, balance and flexibility variables on PETE students

A sedentary group of 23 and elite level of 23 basketball players were involved in the study. The average age of sedentary group is 22.2±2.1/year with the average height of 179.4±2.5 cm; however, the average age of players is 23.6±2.2/year with the average height of 189.45±3.23 cm. Totally three photo shootings were applied to the participants, which are; from anterior perspective for anthropometric measurement, from anterior and lateral perspective for posture analysis. The graphics acquired were digitized via computer software and were analyzed by using SPSS v.19 packaged software. As a result of the analysis done, there are statistically significant differences found in the angle of head lateral deviation (right), in the angle of head front deviation in sagittal plane, in the angles of claviculare anterior (right), in the symmetry between right and left acromion processes, in the angle of sagittal-anterior pelvic tilt, in the distance between acromion process and plumbline anterior (right-left), in the distance between head posture and acromion process sagittal(cm), in the horizontal symmetry distance of plumbline and acromion process (right and left), in the horizontal symmetry of sternal notch and the plumbline (anterior left and right), in the horizontal symmetry between sternal notch and plummet (anterior right-left), in the horizontal symmetry between greater trochanter and the plumbline sagittal(posterior) groups. (p<0.05).As a result, in a long time period, training oneself in a particular sport branch has a significant effect on the development of players’ dynamic and static postures. It can also be stated that the evidence found will be useful for determining the success criteria in basketball, specifying and arranging the training program.

In this regard, the present study aims to investigate the effect of core training on the median and ulnar nerve conduction velocity (NCV) in basketball players. Ten male basketball players (avg. age: 18.4 +/- 0.78 years, height: 191.6 +/- 8.65 cm, weight: 80.9 +/- 10.15 kg) were participated in the study voluntarily. Core training program was applied to athletes for 8 weeks, 3 days a week, and 30-45 minutes per session. Median and ulnar NCV measurements were performed before and after the training program (pre- and post-test). For the analysis of the pre- and post-test, the MANOVA test was used, and the probability value of p0.05). A statistical difference was found only in the "distance" parameter in the non-dominant hand median and ulnar NCV measurements (p<0.05). A...

Long-term exercise increases the production of reactive oxygen species in brain. Therefore, athletes often consume antioxidant supplements to remedy exercise-related damage and fatigue during exercise. The aim of this study is to evaluate the role of ascorbic acid in the effects of different intensities of swimming exercise on the brain susceptibility to experimental epilepsy in rats. Ascorbic acid was administered intraperitoneally (ip) during three different swimming exercise programme for 90 days (15 min, 30 min, 90 min/day). The anticonvulsant activity regarding the frequency of epileptiform activity appeared in the 80 min after 500 units intracortical penicillin injection in 30 min and 90 min/day exercise groups. The administration of ascorbic acid (100 mg/kg, ip) did not alter the anticonvulsant properties seen in the in short-duration (15 min/day) swimming exercise group. The amplitude of epileptiform activity a...
