This paper presents a simple modification to the enhancement method based on Gabor filtering algorithm in order to improve image quality. It has been noticed that the computations of the local ridge direction and also the enhancement is affected heavily by the block size used therefore, an attempt has been made to develop a more accurate approach which is dynamically decides the block size. It is based on the local ridge frequency. The proposed enhancement algorithm has been tested to fingerprint images from FVC2002 and it shows a promising result

Consequently, it is essential to develop and analyze the brain wave of clinical changes of the EEG signals during Holland answering questions. The experimental test begins by answering Holland test with 34 participants of staff members at KAU (College of Computing and Information Technology and College of Engineering). Accordingly, the test is applied twice, one without using EEG and the second with EEG recording. The proposed solution uses 34 answering of participants of Holland career test dataset after getting the content data from the answering of Holland using the EEG and initial career assessment. Consequently, the Holland answering test (without EEG) is analyzed along with EEG analysis of the Holland answering in different frequency bands such as delta, theta, alpha and beta. Therefore, we aim to provide researchers, a methodology, if we could identify career interest using EEG s...

These systems need a variety of datasets to help develop, evaluate, and compare their performances fairly. Physicians indicated that breast anatomy, especially dense ones, and the probability of breast cancer and tumor development, vary highly depending on race. Researchers reported that breast cancer risk factors are related to culture and society. Thus, there is a massive need for a local dataset representing breast cancer in our region to help develop and evaluate automatic breast cancer CAD systems. This paper presents a public mammogram dataset called King Abdulaziz University Breast Cancer Mammogram Dataset (KAU-BCMD) version 1. To our knowledge, KAU-BCMD is the first dataset in Saudi Arabia that deals with a large number of mammogram scans. The dataset was collected from the Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Al-Amoudi Center of Excellence in Breast Cancer at Ki...

The earlier the detection of hepatic tumors, the lower the mortality rate. This paper introduces a computer-aided diagnosis system to extract hepatic tumors from computed tomography scans and classify them into malignant or benign tumors. Segmenting hepatic tumors from computed tomography scans is considered a challenging task due to the fuzziness in the liver pixel range, intensity values overlap between the liver and neighboring organs, high noise from computed tomography scanner, and large variance in tumors shapes. The proposed method consists of three main stages; liver segmentation using Fast Generalized Fuzzy C-Means, tumor segmentation using dynamic thresholding, and the tumor's classification into malignant/benign using support vector machines classifier. The performance of the proposed system was evaluated using three liver benchmark datasets, which are MICCAI-Sliver07, LiTS17, and 3Dircadb. The proposed computer adided diagnosis system achieved an average accuracy of 96.75%, sensetivity of 96.38%, specificity of 95.20% and Dice similarity coefficient of 95.13%.

Intellectual disabilities include a delay in development, learning difficulty, difficulty in developing language skills and speaking clearly. The proposed work suggested a method to develop their physical and intellectual abilities through an interactive game. This game designed and developed as a result of collaborative work between game developers and therapists to find the best scenario to improve down syndromes children in both motor and cognitive skills. The children were involved during all of the development stages. The proposed game was developed using Unity 3D as a platform and Kinect 360 camera to detect child reaction. The finally developed game was tested on our target users and shows a promising result.

Early detection of such disorders can affect the treatment procedure, avoiding severe side effects like blindness. In this paper, a retinal eye blood vessels segmentation algorithm is proposed to aid the process of retinal screening. The proposed algorithm applied pre-processing techniques including noise removal followed by contrast stretching. Gabor filter is used to enhance the appearance of blood vessels using the directional field method. After that, segmentation using a global threshold applied followed by morphological post-processing techniques. The performance of the proposed technique was evaluated using a publicly available database (DRIVE) and proved to be a match for the state-of-art algorithms as the results were promising.

DR is a leading cause of blindness if not detected early. The currently available DR treatments are limited to stopping or delaying the deterioration of sight, highlighting the importance of regular scanning using high-efficiency computer-based systems to diagnose cases early. The current work presented fully automatic diagnosis systems that exceed manual techniques to avoid misdiagnosis, reducing time, effort and cost. The proposed system classifies DR images into five stages—no-DR, mild, moderate, severe and proliferative DR—as well as localizing the affected lesions on retain surface. The system comprises two deep learning-based models. The first model (CNN512) used the whole image as an input to the CNN model to classify it into one of the five DR stages. It achieved an accuracy of 88.6% and 84.1% on the DDR and the APTOS Kaggle 2019 public dataset...

Decreasing road accidents rate and increasing road safety have been the major concerns for a long... more Decreasing road accidents rate and increasing road safety have been the major concerns for a long time as traffic accidents expose the divers, passengers, properties to danger. Driver fatigue and drowsiness are one of the most critical factors affecting road safety, especially on highways. EEG signal is one of the reliable physiological signals used to perceive driver fatigue state but wearing a multi-channel headset to acquire the EEG signal limits the EEG based systems among drivers. The current work suggested using a driver fatigue detection system using transfer learning, depending only on one EEG channel to increase system usability. The system firstly acquires the signal and passing it through preprocessing filtering then, converts it to a 2D spectrogram. Finally, the 2D spectrogram is classified with AlexNet using transfer learning to classify it either normal or fatigue state. The current study compares the accuracy of seven EEG channel to select one of them as the most accurate channel to depend on it for classification. The results show that the channels FP1 and T3 are the most effective channels to indicate the drive fatigue state. They achieved an accuracy of 90% and 91% respectively. Therefore, using only one of these channels with the modified AlexNet CNN model can result in an efficient driver fatigue detection system.

The system consists of two main parts, the first one is a server side application connected to IP cameras to detect crowd level in certain location(s) while the other one is a mobile application with different users rights to receive alarm from the server side application. The suggested frame work provides an effective method to connect and alert all of the system users immediately, preventing high crowd level danger.

This paper describes the second phase of an ongoing project to help those children suffering from speech disorder problems. The current application is a multi-levels interactive game using speech recognition technology; kid can interact with an interactive animated picture using his/her voice. There are three levels for improving the speaking skills of children at different stages. Firstly, by encouraging child just to produce sounds then by improving his/her pronunciation skills by pronouncing short vocal (one syllable words)Arabic words and finally improving his/her skill by pronouncing long vocal (for example two syllable words). This application solves speech disorder problems such as difficulty producing speech, dysfluency, shuttering and voice disorders. The current work is pioneer in developing an Arabic language application and targeted to children aged from two years to seven years.
