Action on Day One during the 2024 Mbarara 7s tournament has ended prematurely because of a heavy downpour.

The tournament was being played at the Ntare School rugby pitch in Kakyeka on Saturday before a windy hailstorm interrupted proceedings just past 4 p.m. local time. The Uganda Rugby Union (URU) technical committee in charge of the 7s series quickly paused all proceedings to maintain the safety of everyone at the venue.

Pool C’s match between hosts Mbarara Titans and Impis in round three was the last to be played. That means pools B and A in the men’s competition did not complete their scheduled round-robin matches.

Unplayed matches on Day One of 2024 Mbarara 7s:

On the other hand, the women’s competition had successfully concluded their scheduled matches by the time the downpour started.

The URU technical committee will make adjustments to the schedule to accommodate the four remaining matches on Day Two before the knockout round. An official communication and way-forward from this point is expected by nighttime.
