Heathens’ Ofoyrwoth suspended for reaching card limit (original) (raw)
Platinum Credit Heathens playmaker Aaron Ofoyrwoth has received a two-match suspension for accumulating a fifth yellow card in the 2024 Nile Special 7s Series.
Ofoyrwoth was sent to the sin bin during the match against Mongers during Round Two of the Mbarara 7s on Saturday afternoon.
He faced a judicial hearing at Kakyeka thereafter where he was handed the minimum sanction of two weeks – equivalent to two matches in 7s rugby. Ofoyrwoth and Heathens did not appeal the decision.
Consequently, he will miss the final pool match against Elgon Wolves and the Cup Quarterfinal. He will be available for the rest of the Mbarara 7s.
The maximum number of cards (yellow and/or red) a player can accumulate is five. This amendment to the laws capping the number of cards a player can receive in the series was introduced in 2023.
The other player at risk of a cards suspension is Black Pirates’ Haruna Mohammed (four yellow cards).
