The study aimed to assess the acute toxicity of synergistic formulation of traditional contraceptive plants. Acute toxicity means adverse change occurring immediately on exposure to a substance. Acute toxicity of crude petroleum and aqueous extract was evaluated by oral route administration to female mice by using OECD-423 guidelines. It was a single high extract dose of 2000mg/kg administered and the effects on mortality, behavioral pattern as well as spontaneous locomotors activity were evaluated. The limit dose of 2000 mg/kg did not cause any mortality. The findings suggested that the LD50 value of aqueous and petroleum ether was found to be greater than 2000 mg/kg. Hence, synergistic extract of plants is nontoxic. This work is useful to find out the dose structure for further experimental work on evaluation of traditional contraceptive plants and their activity

Research paper thumbnail of HPLC analysis of Ethynylestradiol from seed extract of Moringa oleifera Lam

Journal of Medicinal Plants Studies, 2017

The research investigated the presence etynyl etradiol in ‘Drumstick’ (Moringa oleifera Lam.) seed samples. The major compounds found in Moringa oleifera Lam. seeds were further analyzed by HPLC technique. High pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) has been found to be an efficient and sensitive method for identification and quantification of different classes of Ethynylestradiol. HPLC studies showed that analysis of Ethynylestradiol derivatives extracted in petroleum ether and aqueous seed extracts of Moringa oleifera Lam. revealed significantly high levels. The calculated value of ethynyl estradiol was obtained 108.199 μg/ml of petroleum extract while it was obtained 655.26 μg/ml of Moringa oleifera aqueous extract. As the concentration of the samples increased, the peak area was also increased.

Purpose: Quantitative analysis of steroidal saponin “Diosgenin” from methanol extract of Moringa ... more Purpose: Quantitative analysis of steroidal saponin “Diosgenin” from methanol extract of Moringa oleifera Lam (Drumstick) by HPTLC technique. Approach: The approach of the study was to find out the presence of Diosgenin from Moringa and then its quantity. Method: HPTLC analysis was performed with methonolic extract of seeds. Standard Diosgenin curve was used to detect the availability of the steroidal saponin Diosgenin. Results: 20 µL of sample was applied which showed 159.4084 ng of Diosgenin. About 0.797 % w/v of Diosgenin was estimated form seeds of Moringa in methonolic extract. It was compared with the standard Diosgenin curve. Conclusions: Moringa oleifera Lam seeds are the source of steroidal saponin-Diosgenin which can be used as female contraceptive to control human population.

In addition to rhizobacterias, the formulation may also contain various additives. Furthermore, it is important to understand the interaction between bacteria and formulation materials. The formulation materials serve as cell protectants which enhance the shelf-life of bacteria. It is proved that the Rhizobium is the effective inoculants along with specific nutrient media for survival. Many researchers have shown that liquid rhizobial formulations are more beneficial than solid bio-fertilizer formulations. In the present work the survival of Azotobacter in liquid formulations were evaluated by using Glycerol at different concentration in Jenson’s broth. It was noted that survival of Azotobacter was concentration correlated. Lowest number of colonies in 5 mM in the medium containing glycerol (23 colonies at zero days and 5 colonies on 360th day) and highest number of colonies in 2...
