Aims: This article was written to identify the teaching practices throughout Covid 19 with key terms, virtual mastering during the lockdown, on-line teaching during a pandemic, and application of blended learning during Covid-19 and post Covid implication. Methods: The data were collected from Clarivate Analytic’s “Web of Science” for a period of 10 years (2006-2016). The search was further refined to the top 10 fields in the field of “Life Sciences and Biomedicine”. The data were downloaded on the following parameters: “author productivity”, “country contribution”, “organisational involvement”, “funding agencies”, “publication year”, “most preferred document type” and “language”. Findings: No consistent growth is observed in the research activities pertinent to the fields of “Life sciences and Biomedicine”. Among the studied fields, “Neurosciences and Neurology” is in lead with “2016” as the most productive year. The study aims to ascertain digital literacy skills of users of State Central Library, Thiruvanan... more The study aims to ascertain digital literacy skills of users of State Central Library, Thiruvananthapuram. Data were collected using questionnaire distributed to a random sample of 160 members, out of which 150 are received with required details. It is observed that the respondents possess essential digital literacy skills. Majority of users were students and they have basic knowledge about digital materials and also used e-resources. Internet based resources and services are widely used. Google chrome is the most preferred web browser. Facebook is the social networking site used by the majority of respondents. Most of the library users identified the problem such as the absence of computer labs and free Wi-Fi facilities

The study intended with an aim to explore the awareness, attitude and problems faced in the utilisation of e-learning. Closed ended questionnaire was used to collect the data from respondents. The study includes the library professionals of the central and 43 teaching department libraries in the UoK and central and 25 teaching department libraries of MGU. Among the 112 questionnaires distributed, 104 were completely answered and returned. The findings of the study revealed that half of the library professionals are well aware of e-learning in both universities

The information requirement of career seekers in LIS in Kerala has been investigated in this stud... more The information requirement of career seekers in LIS in Kerala has been investigated in this study. The role of the library among the career seekers and the need of the resources and services of the library is discussed. The population selected for the study was the Mlisc students, part time librarians and alumnus of the LIS department and full time research scholars in LIS department. The sample was collected from both University of Kerala and Mahatma Gandhi University. A structured questionnaire is prepared on objectives of the study with closed-ended and open-ended questions and were distributed among 160 career seekers and 154 responses were received. Almost cent percentage (99.35%) of respondents require internet service/electronic resources and respondents (86.36%) required information source is documents which publish formats of application forms. Majority of respondents (98.05%) required documents which are helpful for career seekers in LIS and materials which give information about training and education opportunities.

The impact of scientific articles in respective subject fields are reflected by its citation coun... more The impact of scientific articles in respective subject fields are reflected by its citation counts in citation databases. Google Scholar (GS), a freely accessible database of scholarly papers along with their citations data, has an extensive coverage of Library and Information Science (LIS) literature. It is the only available global database for the citation analysis of Indian LIS journals. The purpose of this study is an attempt to analyze the publication age, citation density, most prolific authors and most occurred terms in the titles of highly cited articles of the journal "DESIDOC Journal of Library and Information Technology (DJLIT)" based on Google Scholar data. Harzing's Publish or Perish (PoP) software was used to download the data from GS. A total of 113 highly cited (citations = >20) articles were downloaded. VOSviewer science mapping software was also used for visualization purpose. A non-significant correlation occurred between citation count and publication age. There was also a significant negative correlation occurred between citation density and publication age.

The article pinpoints the information behaviour of scientists of the National Institute for Inter... more The article pinpoints the information behaviour of scientists of the National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram. The population is made up of 40 scientists under various applied branches of Science. Census method of sampling is used to represent the entire population. Questionnaire method is used as a tool to collect the data. A total of 40 questionnaires were distributed and 21 respondents had filled and returned back. The data were analyzed using SPSS software. Scientists sought information for research work. Majority of the scientists obtain information from reading electronic journals. About eleven Scientists gave first preference to scientific-technical journals. In the case of informal sources 9 scientists gave first preference to Face-to-face Discussions/Conversation with colleagues for obtaining informal sources. About 52.38% of the scientists rated abstracting and indexing service as excellent, 14 scientists preferred 'Nature' for reading and second most preferred journal is 'Environment science and Technology'. Majority of the scientists (16) preferred Science Direct database, Scirus.

<jats:p>This paper deals with the analysis of information seeking behavior of M.Ed. student... more <jats:p>This paper deals with the analysis of information seeking behavior of M.Ed. students in the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram. A sum of 169 M Ed students were drawn for conducting the study with an objective to identify the sources of information searched by M.Ed. students, need and preferences for e-resources and print resources. The study showed that M. Ed. students seek information mostly for general awareness, preparing for seminar paper, doing assignments and for preparing project work. The most essential reference sources for the sample is the encyclopedia, Yearbooks, Dictionaries and Manuals. E-resources are preferred more by the M Ed students than the Print resources. Google is most preferred search engine. The results of the study emphasize the need for better orientation about library resources and services among all categories of students for developing information seeking habits.</jats:p>

It is encompasses the physiological psychological and ecological factors and determines the level of job satisfaction of the employees in any organization. [1] The purpose of this study is to measure the job satisfaction among library professionals in C.H Mohammad Koya Library: University of Calicut. Job satisfaction is an individual feeling which could cause by a variety of factors. The six components of job satisfaction were measures derived through literature: physical environment &amp; ICT infrastructure, organizational culture, personal growth and development, salary, promotion and nature of work.5-point scale were used to examine the job satisfaction of respondents. Questionnaire method was used for data collection and results are tabulated. Outcome of the study has been discussed that although library professionals working in this university library were slightly satisfied with their nature of work, while the salary, promotion, and denied access to benefits were identified as major constraints to job satisfaction. Based on the results, the study recommended that review the conditions attached to promotion, salary, among others as measures for enhancing job satisfaction. It is also suggested that the encourage and motivate the library professionals more incentives and good salary packages are to be offered so that their achievement drive can be activated that in turn lead to high level of job satisfaction.</jats:p>

LIS programms throughout the world have instituted many curriculum changes as a result of technological achievements and advancement of ICT. Four departments are included in this study. The curriculum of the departments was collected personally. There are 3 institutions (75.00%) conduct 2-year integrated MLISc programme whereas one department M. G. University conducts one year BLISc and one year MLISc programs. There is a difference in the number of papers in the curriculum of these departments. Both in theoretical and practical perspective, all the departments covered ICT and application of ICT on library field.</jats:p>

The present research aims at studying the extent of job enlargement in selected eight state university libraries in Kerala. Data of the study was gathered from a total of 266 qualified and permanent library and information science professionals. Analysis of data was done using SPSS and Micro Soft excel. The important finding of the research is that there is no significant level of job enlargement among library and information science professionals. It also finds that job enlargement situation of libraries in the universities in Kerala is low and different. The study reveals that there is significant variation in the level of job enlargement among the university libraries in Kerala. The highest level of job enlargement is found in Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady followed by Kannur University.</jats:p>

Acknowledgements have caught the attention of policymakers as they, like citations, indicate infl... more Acknowledgements have caught the attention of policymakers as they, like citations, indicate influential contributions to scientific work. The present paper analyzes the acknowledgements-funding and personal- of the research output of the University of Kerala for the period 2001-2018. Of the 1972 records extracted from the Web of Science, 829 records (42%) had funding information. Among the countries, other than India, the United States was the leading country with 26 funding agencies. There were 166 unique funding agencies of which the Government agencies were the predominant funders. Though Chemistry had the largest number of funded publications, the research area of Geology was seen to be funded by the largest number of 25 funding agencies. Personal acknowledgements were categorized into five main categories and the category- “ Access to Research Related Information” accounted for 46.02% and “Peer Interactive Communication” accounted for 16.82% of the acknowledgements. Data extracted include year of submission of thesis, title of the thesis, title of the cited work, year of the publication of the cited work type of the document and if journal title of the journals. The citations were divided into six categories; books, journals, conference papers, reports, theses/dissertations and electronic documents. The journal articles are cited more and it is 38.79 % of total documents cited. Economic and Political Weekly (50) got highest number of citation. The latest document used is published in the year 2007 and the oldest one in the year 1923. The decade 1991-2000 got highest citation (35.73%). Bradford’s law do not find fit with Commerce literature. The rate of self citation is very less i.e 0.0022953. The SPSS software package was used for analysing the data. Majority of the faculty members use e-journals for their research needs and career information. They preferred UGC-INFONET consortia, J-gate, JSTOR, and ICSSR consortia. To increase the use of e-journals, certain practical methods are suggested.

The subjects in which active research is going on in Indian universities are identified. The findings of the study are useful for those who keenly examine India’s productivity on neuroscience.

The study showed that M. Ed. students seek information mostly for general awareness, preparing for seminar paper, doing assignments and for preparing project work. The most essential reference sources for the sample is the encyclopedia, Yearbooks, Dictionaries and Manuals. E-resources are preferred more by the M Ed students than the Print resources. Google is most preferred search engine. The results of the study emphasize the need for better orientation about library resources and services among all categories of students for developing information seeking habits.</jats:p>

It is encompasses the physiological psychological and ecological factors and determines the level of job satisfaction of the employees in any organization. [1] The purpose of this study is to measure the job satisfaction among library professionals in C.H Mohammad Koya Library: University of Calicut. Job satisfaction is an individual feeling which could cause by a variety of factors. The six components of job satisfaction were measures derived through literature: physical environment &amp; ICT infrastructure, organizational culture, personal growth and development, salary, promotion and nature of work.5-point scale were used to examine the job satisfaction of respondents. Questionnaire method was used for data collection and results are tabulated. Outcome of the study has been discussed that although library professionals working in this university library were slightly satisfied with their nature of work, while the salary, promotion, and denied access to benefits were identified as major constraints to job satisfaction. Based on the results, the study recommended that review the conditions attached to promotion, salary, among others as measures for enhancing job satisfaction. It is also suggested that the encourage and motivate the library professionals more incentives and good salary packages are to be offered so that their achievement drive can be activated that in turn lead to high level of job satisfaction.</jats:p>

LIS programms throughout the world have instituted many curriculum changes as a result of technological achievements and advancement of ICT. Four departments are included in this study. The curriculum of the departments was collected personally. There are 3 institutions (75.00%) conduct 2-year integrated MLISc programme whereas one department M. G. University conducts one year BLISc and one year MLISc programs. There is a difference in the number of papers in the curriculum of these departments. Both in theoretical and practical perspective, all the departments covered ICT and application of ICT on library field.</jats:p>

The present research aims at studying the extent of job enlargement in selected eight state university libraries in Kerala. Data of the study was gathered from a total of 266 qualified and permanent library and information science professionals. Analysis of data was done using SPSS and Micro Soft excel. The important finding of the research is that there is no significant level of job enlargement among library and information science professionals. It also finds that job enlargement situation of libraries in the universities in Kerala is low and different. The study reveals that there is significant variation in the level of job enlargement among the university libraries in Kerala. The highest level of job enlargement is found in Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady followed by Kannur University.</jats:p>

The present paper analyzes the acknowledgements-funding and personal- of the research output of the University of Kerala for the period 2001-2018. Of the 1972 records extracted from the Web of Science, 829 records (42%) had funding information. Among the countries, other than India, the United States was the leading country with 26 funding agencies. There were 166 unique funding agencies of which the Government agencies were the predominant funders. Though Chemistry had the largest number of funded publications, the research area of Geology was seen to be funded by the largest number of 25 funding agencies. The citations were divided into six categories; books, journals, conference papers, reports, theses/dissertations and electronic documents. The journal articles are cited more and it is 38.79 % of total documents cited. Economic and Political Weekly (50) got highest number of citation. The population is made up of 120 faculty members from the difficult departments of University of Kerala. Questionnaire method is adopted for data collection, 104 filled questionnaires are received back. Among them about 92 faculty members were aware about e-journals. The SPSS software package was used for analysing the data. Majority of the faculty members use e-journals for their research needs and career information. They preferred UGC-INFONET consortia, J-gate, JSTOR, and ICSSR consortia. To increase the use of e-journals, certain practical methods are suggested.
