Membership
KHSZ strives to be welcoming and inclusive of everyone who attends our services and programs. Everyone who attends or participates in our activities is considered a part of the community. Everyone is welcome to attend all our programs and to volunteer in a variety of ways, including joining a team, sponsoring kiddush, or leading a part of a service.
Our annual goal is to raise $300,000 during our 5786 (2025-2026) fundraising drive for Kehilat Hadar Shaare Zedek, and we rely primarily on membership dues to achieve this. As a lay-led community, we also depend on volunteer efforts from our members.
Members are entitled to:
- Vote at formal meetings, including to elect the board
- Run for a position on the board
- Priority High Holiday registration with seats for your household at no additional cost
- Register at a discounted rate for our annual Shavuot Retreat
Qualifying for membership:
- Membership is open to Jewish adults over the age of 16
- Members are asked to contribute to the community both financially and through volunteering their time and skills. We recognize that this is not always feasible, and so we extend membership to those who contribute in at least one of these dimensions:
- We ask each household* to contribute financially according to a fair share model, based on 1% to 2% of household income before taxes. While you will not be asked to disclose your household income or submit any financial documents, we do rely on everyone contributing based on their income, according to the table below. The minimum requested level to qualify for membership is 500perpersonand500 per person and 500perpersonand250 for students. (All donations are fully tax-deductible.)
- We also ask that each member volunteer at least five times a year in some organizational or ritual capacity.
Renew or apply for membership
- Current members will receive a form to renew membership via email
Note:
- Membership runs on the Jewish calendar year
- For the purposes of membership, a household consists of individuals over 16 sharing one permanent address.
- If you join mid-year, your dues may be prorated.
If you have a question about voting membership or your status as a voting member, please email secretary@khsz.org.
