One of the most effective and cheapest ways to meet real practical requests and needs and development of new methods is balanced combination of experimental investigation and computer-aided simulation and technology design. In turn, the best way to develop a simulation tool for a new chemical process is to use an integrated simulation environment, which incorporates all necessary functionality and thus can reduce the cost of the development of a new model.

A surrogate that demonstrated good agreement with the parent fuel in the detonation process was chosen. A detailed kinetic mechanism was elaborated using a multilevel approach. A reduced

Combustion and Flame, 2010

In order to reconcile an increasingly large deviation (order of magnitude) of the ignition delay ... more In order to reconcile an increasingly large deviation (order of magnitude) of the ignition delay time at decreasing initial temperature, computed using the prior art kinetic schemes, with the available experimental values, a new skeletal mechanism (54 species, 94 reactions) for low-temperature (500-800 K) ignition of n-butane in air based on ab initio calculations is developed. The skeletal mechanism obtained accurately reproduces n-butane combustion kinetics for the practically important ranges of pressure, temperature and fuel-air equivalence ratio, especially in the low-temperature range. The elaborated first principal skeletal chemical kinetic mechanism of n-butane oxidation was validated against available experimental results for normal and elevated initial pressure (1-15 atm) using the Chemical Work Bench code. A good agreement with experiments was shown.

Research paper thumbnail of Effect of the spatial configuration of the corona discharge on the initiation of detonation in gas mixtures

Russian Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2008

The effect of the spatial configuration of corona discharge plasma on the initiation of detonatio... more The effect of the spatial configuration of corona discharge plasma on the initiation of detonation in the shock tube was examined. The dependences of the combustion wave velocity for propane-butane-oxygennitrogen mixtures on the mixture stoichiometry and nitrogen content were obtained. The optimal configuration of the electrodes was determined. A model of the process was proposed, and its predictions were compared to the experimental results. It was established that the effect of a pulsed corona discharge could be explained by the formation of local overheated areas.

In Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology along with the traditional experimental laboratory works in chemical kinetics and thermodynamics an integration of computer-aided labs into curricula of the second and third course students was started two years ago.. Two core sets of digital laboratory works, connected with the combustion and explosion phenomena, were developed as supplements for the general chemical thermodynamics course and advanced chemical kinetics course. Computer labs are based on "Chemical Workbench" - software system for complete cycle of computer-aided reaction engineering. "ChemBench" reaction simulation environment was developed by Kinetic Technologies (software provider) in cooperation with Russian Research Center "Kurchatov Institute". Report is focused on motivation and the goals of computer-aided laboratory works. Benefits of using these "virtual" or "digital research tools" in teaching of the chemical kinetics and thermodynamic aspects of combustion effects are shown. Their relations and drawbacks in comparison to ordinary "real" experimental installations and apparatuses are discussed.

Calamity 9/11 case is used as a demonstration of unacceptable consequences due to absence of information integration. Special role of Common Operational Picture is demonstrated for provision of the effective disaster management decisions. It is proposed to use a Shared Situational Awareness as a one of key performance indicators for development and maintenance of united disaster management "system-of-systems" for Moscow megalopolis. Four basic principles, which can form foundation of integrated disaster management system of Moscow, are described Keywords: disaster management, common operation picture, resilience, systemof-systems, information integration, mono-profile situational centers, riskinformed International Conference on Advanced Information and Communication Technology for Education (ICAICTE 2013)

Domain experts, which are involved in ontology creation process, usually are not comfortable with direct ontology creation. From the other side, ontology engineers may not know modelled domain as deeply as experts. Utilization of intermediate modelling techniques such as UML and concept maps removes gap between domain experts and ontology engineers. This work includes detailed research of workflow for transforming UML and concept maps model to OWL ontology which is ready for further formalization. Comparison of UML and concept maps workflows for creating upper levels of crisis ontology is provided.

In addition to a currently available system of separate departmental legacy cyber systems, targeted, mainly, at disaster response and recovery only, the proposed SoS shall provide a shared situational awareness of the stakeholders (operators and authorities, responsible for built environment - municipalities, Ministry of Emergency, Fire Brigades, Ambulance, Police, etc.) and the citizens under risk during at a whole life-cycle of hypothetical crisis, especially at pre-crisis and crisis stages. One of the cornerstone of crisis management SoS development is a common core ontology for conceptualization of risk-related activities within SoS framework. This article is focused on a proposed shared situation awareness meta-model and its distinctions from the prior art and concurrent developments.
