Heh

March 5th, 2008

A very funny Torchwood fanfic (PG, I'd say) that I strongly recommend. (Hell, I recommend anything by this author, and the archives are huge and varied, but this just HAD to be inflic- I mean, shared.)

Warning: Put down the drink FIRST. Seriously.

Things that make me go WTF?!?

February 23rd, 2008

A knitting pattern... for a dissected frog.
(Certainly the cutest dissected frog I've ever seen, but it's a pretty short yardstick.)

The E-Z Bake Oven Gourmet Cookbook
(Because every small child wants to make Warm Kumquat and Date Sticky Toffee Pudding, and Roasted Quail Breast with Wild Mushrooms and Pomme Anna over, I mean under, a 100 watt light bulb.)

A knitted digestive system!
(It's art! It's a diet aid! No, wait, it's a really funky scarf! Perfect gift for someone who has everything, I suppose. Looks like a link to the pattern is at the end.)

Squee!

Here's something marvelous:

Shadow Unit went fully live today, with the first story being by Emma Bull. Excellent stuff, and don't forget to check out the Extras section for all the snippets they've been drawing folks in with!

Right, did that!

February 5th, 2008

Just got back from voting after work, and I was pleasantly surprised that I was NOT in the middle of a mad crush of people. I am certainly hoping this is because I beat the people coming in after work (I slipped out a few minutes early) and not because turn out is low. I've never, ever been through a polling place that fast - literally less than 5 minutes, I believe.

On that note, here's a neat site - a project for people to post photos of their polling places. At the moment, the front page shows the Alpharetta High School I just came from, which pleases me unduly.

Enjoy!

A Very YouTube Christmas

December 23rd, 2007

These seem to be going around, but not necessarily all in the same circles, so for your holiday amusement:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DG58UPiBVTI
The Nuns Halleluiah Chorus - This just about defies description, but the shtick is that an order of monks who are sworn to silence want to be part of the Christmas concert, in drag. Too, too funny!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrDapAWGBa4&feature=related
Silent Night in ASL - clearly the choir is hearing, since they follow it with a more traditional choral piece, but really nicely done. YouTube seems to have a fair number of videos of people doing christmas carols with ASL, but I really like this one.

Best Christmas Carol EVER

December 22nd, 2007

I think I may have dented my desk by banging my head on it while laughing. To steal a phrase, this is made of win.

Things that make me say COOL!

November 29th, 2007

Not the screams of the vegetables, exactly, but an amazing orchestra of vegetable instruments created fresh for each performance. Recorders made of carrots, drums made of turnips and gourds, some stringed instrument I couldn't name made from a carefully dissected head of celery, and endlessly more. You wouldn't think it works, but it does, it does!

Brilliant, twisted and so, so wrong

November 27th, 2007

There are some fanfiction crossovers that were never meant to be. There are Lovecraft pastiches so brilliantly written and yet so wrong that they strain the sanity of the reader. There are punchlines so strange and yet so strangely right that you find yourself shrieking and smacking your head even as you laugh.

This is one of those stories.

(Perfectly gen, and completely worksafe, at least if you can keep quiet!)

Knit Night Cupcakes!

To amuse the foodies, the knitters, and especially those who are both:

Nice work! (Looks like if you click the photos down at the bottom it gives a visual how-to, as well.)
