Kiwi Chicks (original) (raw)

If anyone from NZ is interested, I'm running a competition for International Women's day. Anyone who places an order at Environmenstruals webstore between 1 March and 8 March (orders must be paid by 9 March to qualify) will go into the draw to win 1 box of reusable Instead Softcups (2 cups) and 1 box of 6 disposable Instead Softcups.

Instead softcups are an alternative to tampons but with the added bonus of being safe to wear all day. They can also be worn during sex, for mess free period sex.

Did your family's chimney come down in the September earthquake? Does you house lack a fireplace? How will Santa get in to visit you?

NEVER FEAR! Santa has asked me to help out in his busiest season and distribute these keys to Christchurch homes (and any one else who needs one). With a magical Santa key you can still have presents delivered to your tree on Christmas morning.

Just hang this special key outside your door and Santa will use it to get into the house. Because it's magic, only he can use it and if anyone else tries, it won't fit the locks.

Each key is hand crafted and unique and is sent with a personalised letter from Santa addressed to the child/children of the house explaining what the key is and how to use it. I can make them to order to suit any budget from 1to1 to 1to20, or even as high as $200 if you really want (that would be awesome, yes please).

The letter in the photo is an example of a letter to someone who lost their chimney in the quake, but every letter will be individually written (by Santa) to suit the circumstances of each household eg. living in an apartment without a chimney or the fireplace is boarded up, it might be a GPS key to tell Santa where you've gone on holiday or where you're living now, or to let him in because your house only ever had electrical heating.

a more basic key the deluxe key
A 3keyanda3 key and a 3keyanda15 deluxe key

For an extra $3-5 keys can be packaged in a special gift box. I can even hand deliver them (in Chch) for a small fee too.

*My regular (casual) job at Canterbury Uni has finished up for the year, so I'm left quite a bit short each week until I can find more work. If you know of any part time/casual work in Chch for someone with pink hair, I'm keen to hear about it too.

Hi lovely kiwichicks!

I'm a Chch MA student/teacher/business owner. I'm doing a thesis at Canterbury in Gender studies on Superhero comic book readers and what they say about the masculinities in these comic books...or so I tell my supervisors. :-P

I'm rather distracted from my thesis because I've also just started an online store selling reusable menstrual products. I specialise in menstrual cups (sometimes known by the brand name mooncup) and washable cloth pads at the moment, but may branch into other products, such as sponges and cloth tampons, at a later date. I'm still getting up and running, so don't have every brand in stock just yet (international post is sooooo sloooooow), but I will be stocking these cup brands: Diva, femmecup, fleurcup, iriscup, lunette, ladycup, mooncup, Keeper moon cup, meluna, miacup, shecup, and Yuukicup (naturecup too when they are available). Some are here already, others are in transit.

I will also have as broad a range of locally made and imported cloth pads as I can, including some I make myself. If you make pads, pouches or related products, let me know, I'd love to sell your stuff too!

The website is www.environmenstruals.co.nz. - If you're in the churchur area I have samples to play with and can save you postage too!

Anyway...who am I? I'm a weird, pink haired, ex-microbiologist, geeky 30 something feministy type with a tendency to stay up way past my bedtime playing in the internets. I foster cats for cat rescue, and I teach in the UC bridging program when they need me.

But it's all procrastination really. :-)

Hello all!

Just a brief promotional post for a community I'm trying to get off the ground over at kiwi_mods It's pretty quiet right now, but I think it could be quite a useful resource for any of the questions and discussion about where to go for a tattoo/piercing/etc.

Thanks!

I'm trying to find two children's books that I used to read as a child. (I'm 20, so this is from 10/12 years ago). I can't remember the titles, authors or date of publication. But I do remember an awful lot about the stories.

The first book is a thickish hardback cover that is a compilation of about six different storie about fairies, pixies and animals. One of the stories was about some pixies or fairies that discovered the moon in the sky. It stayed there all day and night and eventually it disappeared. The pixies or fairies were quite distressed until they found out it was actually a white balloon. Another of the short stories is about a squirrel that goes outside at night to collect nuts or whatever. He stays out so late that he's caught by Jack Frost (who is depicted as a pixies type character that sprinkles frost everywhere). The squirrel's tail is frozen stiff and he can't move to get home. He gets rescued eventually by some pixies, who take him home. Another story involves a bigger fairy who features in a cinderalla-esque story and she wears this huge, gorgeous dress. She is the picture on the front cover of the book. The illustrations are beautifully flowing, with not many harsh lines.

The second book is thinner, bigger, picture book. It is about a girl and a boy (who are probably siblings) who go to this castle. I'm pretty sure the castle is owned by their uncle. Each double page is an illustration of one of the rooms in the castle. The rooms are heavily inhabited by workers and other weird things. When the boy and girl visit each room they have to find various things to keep the castle in order. So it's very much like Where's Wally but there are more things to find. For example, in the kitchen, you have to find x number of pink jellies. I think the point of the story is to find their uncle. The illustration look a bit older. They're not as polished as some illustrations these days. The author also does another book like this one, where they experience ancient egypt. (Btw, the castle is not haunted, it's portrayed as a happy, colourful and full castle).

So if these sound even slightly familiar, I would be very pleased to hear about it! I've been googling them and looking on Amazon and Barnes and Nobles and found nothing. So it kind of feels like I'm making them up!

Any help MUCH appreciated!!!!!

So.. has anyone tried any of the A'kin skincare products? I'm in love with their shampoo and conditioner but I'm a bit hesitant to try one of their moisturisers. I have really oily skin and I'm tired of buying products that don't do much for it.

If you have oily skin like me, what do you use?

As someone who both loves animals and finds many of them delicious, I try to make concious purchasing decisions and go with 'cruelty free' brands.

We already get free range eggs and chicken products, and recently we've discovered a brand of bacon which comes from a free range piggery, and even has an endorsement by the SPCA:

http://www.freedomfarms.co.nz/life/ourfarmspictures.asp

I hope that more farmers see the benefits in this style of production, and that more consumers make the switch and support them.

I'd much rather contribute to the meat industry knowing that the animal in question was treated with kindness and respect, and had a good life.

ETA: I bought it at New World supermarket

For those of you who have kids, I reckon this will be a pretty fun competition to do :)

A load of old rubbish, a love for the environment, and a little creative talent, is all young Kiwis need to take up Auckland Zoo’s Trash to Taonga challenge for Conservation Week (7 to 14 September).

From pre-schoolers to 18-year-olds, Trash to Taonga invites young people to clean up an area in their local neighbourhood and create an artwork, or taonga (treasure) that reflects New Zealand native fauna or flora with the rubbish collected.
