This paper aimed to develop and assess a backyard aquaponics system, focusing on efficient filtra... more This paper aimed to develop and assess a backyard aquaponics system, focusing on efficient filtration. Goldfish and spinach were selected for aquaculture and hydroponics, respectively, with each 30-day experiments conducted using a fish tank, and a hydroponic unit employing two PVC pipe loops (100 x 55 cm). Two filters were tested: Filter-I with synthetic media, and Filter-II with natural media, alongside a control (no filter). Water quality parameters in Filters-I and Filters-II surpassed those of the control, with Filter-I exhibiting superior efficiency. Significant improvements in fish and plant development were observed in Filter-I and Filter-II more than the Control.

In Industrial Distribution Power System, the use of electronic devices such as motor drives, rect... more In Industrial Distribution Power System, the use of electronic devices such as motor drives, rectifiers or converters, power supplies and power electronic devices has been increased tremendously from last decade. In such a systems, switching operations are more in their regular work. It causes distortion in supplied waveform (Harmonics). This increases the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of Industrial Distribution Power System which is considered as the main reason for the power quality problems. This paper includes the sources of the harmonics, effects of the harmonics and the recommendations for correction of these problems of power quality resulting from harmonic distortion in the Industrial Distribution Power System.

This distortion in waveforms (harmonics) is considered to be most significant reason for power quality problems. This paper discuss about analysis of power quality parameters in industrial power distribution system used to minimize the power quality problems.

5 C using moringa leaves powder. The study aims to
prolong the storage life of tilapia fish using moringa leaves
powder of different concentrations. The effect of the
moringa leaves powder (MLP) on biochemical, microbiological and sensory properties of fresh Nile tilapia stored in
ice at 5 C was investigated. Total volatile basic nitrogen,
pH and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances values in
MLP treated tilapia fish were 18.18 mg/100 g, 6.57,
5.63 mg MDA/kg respectively, which were significantly
lower compared to untreated fish. Bacterial count (total
viable count) was delayed significantly by increasing MLP
concentration. The treated sample remains acceptable during storage in ice at 5 C up to 11 days, whereas shelf life
of untreated sample of tilapia was not extended beyond
7 days. The corresponding microbiological assessment also
supports the results of sensory assessment that increased in
shelf-life. The results revealed that the MLP is natural
preservatives for extending the shelf life of Nile tilapia
during transportation and ice storage.

Ring seine is one of the most efficient fishing gear used to catch pelagic schooling fishes such ... more Ring seine is one of the most efficient fishing gear used to catch pelagic schooling fishes such as oil sardine, mackerel and operated largely by small scale fisherman along the Indian coast. It was introduced in the mid-eighties in the artisanal marine fisheries sector of Kerala. The ring seine operation was started in Ratnagiri in the year 2009. The number of ring seiners have increased drastically since its introduction. General characteristics have been modified since its introduction and described in the current communication. Two types of ring seines are presently operated to catch different pelagic fish species in Ratnagiri. The overall length of the net was observed to be range of 325 to 668 m with depth of 20 to 40 m and was fabricated by polyamide multifilament twine, having mesh size ranging from 12.7 to 25.4 mm. The ring seine is operated from fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) fishing boats, fitted with single or double outboard motors (OBM).
