About

Batman Eats a Hotdog (snowclone: Batman eats (a) X) is a popular and exploitable YouTube video subject to parodies and remixes featuring Batman eating various food items.

Origin

The original video named "Batman Eats a Hotdog" [1] was uploaded September 14th, 2011 by Rodrigo Huerta, a former Dreamworks animator under his channel user elcid1984 [2]. The video featured an animated version of the superhero Batman slowly raising a hotdog with mustard in his hand before quickly devouring it viciously. Following the complete consumption, Batman raises his head with mustard on his lips before swallowing, after which a bolt of lightning strikes in the background and the screen fades to black, with the only visible object being Batman's eyes before they fade out as well.

The video used music from another YouTube video titled "Dramatic music 2" [3] uploaded by user Drullen1995 [4]. The video received over 150,000 views on its first day and has over 1.5 million views as of January 18th, 2012.

Spread

The first reuse of the original video came 2 days after with the video "Batroll eats a Hotdog" [5] which reused the original video until Batman looks up. Skipping of the bolt of lightning striking the small clip of Batman chewing was looped to a lighthearted tune.

The first parody to change what Batman ate was the video "batman eats rainbow dash" [6] uploaded Oct 4th, 2011. The video had Batman eating Rainbow Dash, one of the protagonists from the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

On January 11th, 2012, elcid1984 uploaded a new video titled "Hotdog Eats a Batman" that reversed the roles. Later, on December 18th, 2012, elcid published a live-action reenactment of the original video.
