It employs a descriptive phenomenological research design. The study surveyed second-and third-grade students attending one private elementary school and two state elementary schools. The data was collected using a form including open-ended questions prepared by the researchers. The same form asked students to draw a picture of what kind of setting/class they envisioned for the Life Studies course. As part of the study, which incorporated feedback from 146 students, pictures were examined, and semi-structured interviews were conducted with 14 students selected through criterion sampling. The data collected from both the open-ended questions and the pictures and interviews was analyzed using content analysis. According to the research results, the students considered Life Studies a fun course that teaches and facilitates life skills and provides new information; however, they also reported that Life Studies was a boring course because it requires too much writing and they do not like some activities.

Germany-Hamburg was chosen for comparison because the life science course, which is called social sciences course in many countries, taught there has a similar structure to the one taught in Turkey. The common aspects of these two countries make the conclusion more meaningful. Literature review was conducted first to determine the relevant criteria for the comparison between the two countries. In this way, the official documents of both countries were reviewed. Survey method, which is a qualitative research method, was used, and horizontal approach and descriptive approach, which are among comparative educational approaches, were employed. Based on the obtained data, the similarities and differences between the countries were identified with regard to school starting age and compulsory education structure, educational administration and financing, school choice, dress and educational support, the goals of elementary school, the courses taught, and assessment and evaluation. Then the curricula implemented in the two countries were compared in terms of acceptance date, course content, mission/vision, the prescribed skills or competencies, and assessment and evaluation.

The problem statement of this research can be expressed as: "The Printed and Digital Reading Habits Scale: is a valid and reliable scale?" In this study, the scale development method was employed, and two instruments were used: "The Personal Information Form" (sex, age, university, department, and grade)" and 5 Likert-Type "Printed and Digital Reading Habits Scale". Five hundred twenty-four teacher candidates (1 st and 4 th grades) from the departments of Turkish Teaching, Elementary School Teaching, and PreSchool Teaching at Marmara University and Kocaeli University participated in this study. Based on the results of the validity and reliability analyses obtained in the present study, the number of items in the scale was reduced to 18. The KMO value of the scale was found to be .904. The coefficient of Cronbach's Alpha of the scale was found to be .82. Based on the factor analysis of the scale, it was discovered that it had three sub-factors. The test-retest results indicated that the scale would not change at any time (t:-1.664, p< 0.05). In conclusion, it is possible to describe "The Printed and Digital Reading Habits Scale" is a valid and reliable scale.

This study aims at measuring teacher beliefs about five curriculum orientations (academic, cognitive process, social reconstruction, humanistic, and technological) in terms of different variables. The study was carried out (conducted) with 805 pre-service teachers from different departments at one Faculty of Education in the North West of Turkey. Data were collected through Curriculum Orientation Inventory; one independent sample T-test, one-way multivariate analysis of variance and Pearson correlation coefficient analysis were conducted. The results showed that humanistic orientation ranked highest and social reconstruction ranked lowest considering all the participants in the study. Considering all curriculum orientations, students in preschool teaching education scored significantly higher than all the other departments. Among the curriculum orientations, highest correlation was found between "technological" and "humanistic" curriculum orientation.

The topic of teaching and learning culture has been a matter of considerable interest to language... more The topic of teaching and learning culture has been a matter of considerable interest to language educators and much has been written about the role of culture in foreign language instruction over the past two decades. ESL students whose success in a new environment is conditioned not only by their mastery of the new language, but also, and especially, by their ability to negotiate the new culture. Media sources significantly affect students' of attitudes and dispositions towards themselves, other people and society especially in English as a Second Language (ESL) classes. Building on the argument that learning a second language cannot be separated from the acquisition of the culture that it embodies, this paper argues that the design and adaptation of written media should reflect multiple perspectives and avoid prejudices in order to engage students in a process of uncovering and confronting cultural biases and facilitate cultural learning. The paper presents prejudices and other cultural biases learners have about target culture and discusses the positive effects of media on students. The paper suggests that media sources should be integrated into ESL curriculum in order to avoid prejudices, to enhance students' critical thinking and language skills and cultural biases, and to have a better understanding of new culture.
