The article reflects the activity of the commonableage organization “Podillya union”, which exist... more The article reflects the activity of the commonableage organization “Podillya union”, which existed in 1881–1882 in Kamianets-Podilskyj. The author highlights its attitude to violent methods of anti-government struggle. The author also shown a gradual shift in Dnieper Ukraine from populism to commonableage activty, that had terrorism approval character. Attention is paid to the fact that a lot of people from Podillya province played a significant role in the revolutionary life of the Russian Empire.
The post graduate student asserts that “Podillya union” was not the first illegal organization in Kamianets-Podilskyj. In the late 60’s there also functioned the people’s commune. The author reveals the fact that “Podillya union” appeared on the basis of individual groups of the seminary as well as male and female gymnasiums. On the basis of these circles in the middle of 1881 there was created “Podillya union” which activities in theoretical and practical dimensions included arranging gatherings where illegal writings by Herzen, M.Chernyshevskyj, N.Dobrolyubov and other authors were read. The organization also created its own program; spread its views among the peasants, workers and the youth; it gathered donations; the organization also assisted in the release of prisoners and set acts of terrorism. Moreover “Podillya union” had connections with other anti-government organizations. It is shown in the article that “Podillya union” ideologically tended to “People’s Will”.
In April 1883 one of the leaders of organization, M.Starodvorskyj retook the former seminarian N.Wolanskyj from the guardians and on the 16th of December of the following year in St. Petersburg he killed the gendarmerie officer G.Sudeikin.
It is noted that the organization maintained contacts with the future writer M.Kotsiubynskyj, and this also played a great role in formation of his revolutionary ideology. The article describes the defeat of the organization and illustrates the punishment for its members.

The article highlights the emergence and development of violence ideas in the first half of the 7... more The article highlights the emergence and development of violence ideas in the first half of the 70’s of 19th century. It researches the influence on this process of the founders of narodnytstvo – Herzen A., Dobroliubov M. and Chernyshevsky M., of the prominent theorists of the ideological trend Lavrov P. and Bakunin M., and other popular authors of that time. There is described the formation and development of revolutionary centers of Dnieper Ukraine, training to the process of «going to the people» in the article. Traditionally, it is believed that this movement was peaceful. However, basing on the memoirs of the participants, the article proves that a lot of people had intention to provoke peasants to start the social revolution by organizing peasant revolts and uprisings. There is considered a gradual shift from peaceful views. The article shows the content of the main ideas used by revolutionary narodnykys to agitate peasantry. The movement’s reaction to the propagation of socialism, its weaknesses and reasons of failure are discussed. There is described «Chyhyryn conspiracy», that is a failing attempt of the members of «southern rebels» Kiev group to raise the peasants to revolt by deception through the way of showing them the rigged charter on behalf of the Emperor Alexander II.

Author of the article explains the reasons of acts of terror committed by revolutionary disposed ... more Author of the article explains the reasons of acts of terror committed by revolutionary disposed narodniks in the late 1870s. The article also reflects both the conditions and circumstances under which a shift to political attacks on individual authorities was being done, as well as their reasons. The author generally outlines the initial stage of terrorist directions in the revolutionary movement of Naddnipryans’ka Ukraine. The main focus in the publication is done upon the analysis of Naddnipryans’ka Ukraine social and political thought relation to the spread of violence in the political life of the Russian Empire, in particular, the reaction and relation of the community representatives and figures of zems’kyj movement.

The article analyzes the attitude of the Ukrainian public opinion to the loud political assassina... more The article analyzes the attitude of the Ukrainian public opinion to the loud political assassinations of ministers and governors in the early ХХ century. It is shown that terrorists cared about a positive perception of their actions in the society. The influence of mass media and agitational literature on the public opinion is described. The article pays attention that the political assassinations of officials did not frighten ordinary people, because they did not endanger their life. The forms of the support for terrorists by the society are highlighted. The role of the immigrants from Ukraine in the Russian terrorism in the early ХХ century is reflected.
