Using a relatively large sample size of chat transcripts (N = 15,690), an empirical experimental design was used to test and evaluate 640 unique models. Results showed the predictive power of observed modeling processes to be highly statistically significant. These findings have implications for how library service managers may seek to develop and refine reference services using advanced analytical methods.

Drawing on Henry Giroux and Oscar Wilde, we urged our peers to embrace dialogue that respects the individual and draws connections between information literacy and the students' authentic goals and experiences. In this essay we describe numerous changes over that past decade that embrace the central themes of our chapter. We then explain that these examples coexist within a vast edifice of antithetical, neoliberal institutions. We summarize Giroux's recent work decrying the influence of neoliberalism on universities, describe how pressures to deliver instruction economically while demonstrating wide impacts are affecting the adoption of critical approaches, and discuss how the trend toward increasing specialization is giving new life to traditional, noncritical instruction. We conclude by repeating our call for library instructors to use dialog to help learners become more reflective and capable.

Training is never complete because the universe of information objects and indexes constantly expands, the formats and interfaces through which information is accessed change regularly, and library policies and services are ever adapting to better meet the needs of patrons (Neuhaus, 2001). Management is complicated because reference services are often staffed by large pools of staff, frequently drawn from many areas of the library and because services are often provided at hours when primary supervisors are not available (Zabel, 2005a, 2005b). In academic libraries, reliance on student workers introduces additional impediments: complex schedules, frequent turnover, and inconsistent levels of commitment (Jetton, 2009). These factors and others have made it difficult for reference managers to ensure that their staff are always prepared to deliver h...

Analysis of the 606 response sets reveals trends toward reduced use of librarians and increased use of student staff at in-person service points, widespread increases in appointment-based and self-service reference, intensive efforts to reduce demand for reference by improving library instruction, and general improvements in reference service quality. Factors strongly associated with decreases or increases in quality are discussed in detail and implications for reference managers are provided.

As a result of these limitations, PNX records do not currently have a provision for harvesting and transferring rights information about HathiTrust holdings that the Kansas State University (KSU) Library system indexes through Primo. We Built it, Why Didn't they Come? Library Resource Awareness in the Distance Education Community

In response, many libraries have expanded their online holdings to make access and discovery more convenient for both local and distance users, and have created services for distance learners and teachers.
