Transmission understood as the process in which " agencies and human actors transmit the ideas in historical and diachronic order " and communication implying the " synchronic interchange by linguistic impact between senders and receivers " are presented as two paths in which cultural messages are introduced and transmitted by means of " literary production ". Early Greek literature, which was based on the oral performance and mirrored the language in its prototypical form, seemed to be the main source of information for the reconstruction of the two above processes. In the proposed model, the new understanding of the media introduced by Debray plays the most important role, because in the theory of " cultural transmission " , the medium can be not only " a symbolic process, a social code, a material device " but also a human being. Therefore, on the basis of this theory, mediology can be described as the way of 4M: message, medium, milieu, and mediation.

only to the domain of fiction, a genre literature whose basic substratum consists primarily in the description of the world seen through the eyes of the narrator-witness (histōr). In case of Histories, it is difficult to explicitly define how much of it is history and how much is literature. Nevertheless, it is certain that Histories are a special kind of storytelling, which, as shown by a closer analysis, is based on a personal and vicarious experience of the historian and his oral sources that cover several dozens of years of conflict between the East and the West, intertwined with historical, geographical and ethnological descriptions of Greek and barbaric tribes. In such a context the paper will focus on presenting a twofold nature of Herodotean discourse, revealing, on the one hand, the “rising” of the oral history from the sheer activity of dialoguing with people
about the recent past, reconstructed on the basis of its formal and cognitive structure (Fludernik 1996), and, on the other hand, the technique of emplotment (White 1973) used by Herodotus to make the story reportable and tellable within the realm of an epic convention which was vivid and influenced the Archaic and Classical Greek literary texts of his times.

In the present article I discuss the comic elements engaged by Herodotus in the verbal stratum and content of the histories. Therefore, I analyse puns as a stylistic devise used by Historian to put an emphasis on some parts of the narrative, esp. on the ethnographic and historical one, after that I discuss selected episodes paying special attention to their ironic dimension. I also try to show how Herodotus uses his literary technique in its comic range not only to make the public of his oral presentations laughing but also to teach them how to live in the wise manner but not without the humour itself. Because "docere" apart from "delectare" was one of the main purposes of the ancient historical writing.

Greek epic (E. Minchin) and classical Greek historiography (I. Wieżel). In the course of academic teaching, especially concerning a type of classes such as lecture and literate analysis, it is necessary to enrich the exposition of traditional categories within the literary studies by the linguistic bias to literature understood as a specifi c form of language usage. It will help to better realize not only the linguistic structures and morphology of introduced texts but also to clearly display the role of context in their production and performance.
