The practice of informing the public about these critically important science and technological issues through various forms of mass media could be termed as one of the important means of science communication. Critical analysis of the literature has revealed that print media appears to be educating the masses more on science and technology issues than other media. RNI 2018-19 report reveals that around 80 per cent of the nation's print media is in Indian languages and the circulation and readership base is gradually increasing in the rural areas. The same rural background people are suffering from various superstitions, black magic, etc., and losing innovative opportunities due to the lack of knowledge on local resources usage. The present study employed a content analysis technique and enquired about the trends that exist in the coverage of science and technology information by selecting two statewide Kannada language dailies. The study found that science dissemination is still insignificant in comparison to the coverage of other categories. Science publication is still event oriented (episodic) in nature while Agriculture, Environment, Astronomy, and Defense subtopics gained high prominence. The news was the dominant format and around 80 per cent of stories were published along with a picture/illustration.

In comparison to men, women journalists find the profession more challenging as they not only deal with the mighty and powerful in public life but also deal with many hurdles within their respective organizations. Women journalists working for Kannada news media are facing many challenges like lack of flexibility in working hours, lack of proper safety measures, lack of opportunity to work in the field, gender bias in work allotment, disparity in pay package and so on. Despite these, women journalists are excelling and more number of them entering the profession in recent years. Kannada media is also witnessing increase in number of women journalists. The present study validates this point as there are more number women journalists in the bracket of 20 to 30 years of age in comparison to middle aged women journalists. This study attempts to find out various types of challenges faced by women journalists working for Kannada media and to analyze implications of those challenges on their professional commitments.

Science education is the field concerned with sharing science content with common people rather than the field experts to promote a culture of scientific and critical thinking. Media is one of the chief sources of science information where its aim to serve the common people. The study focused on the role of print media in providing science education in which two leading Kannada newspapers were studied under content analysis method. It revealed that, there were differences in science coverage of those two dailies and the existing patterns are in informative approach rather than educational one. Study upheld the results like health and medical science, environment and agriculture got highest priorities through news format followed by article and columns. Self-sourced Indian origin science is widely catered with the less interest generating attempts. The present substantial science dissemination needs to improve in its qualitative approaches which will be helpful in arousing interests among readers and also to consider it as a classroom education material.

All kinds of Government decisions, developmental policies, and programs are communicated to the masses with the use of different types of mass media platforms at various levels. In performing its primary functions of providing information and education to the audiences, mass media plays a significant role in influencing their decision making process and opinions. Media access and its active usage provide opportunities for underprivileged communities not only to be aware of the benefits of various welfare schemes but also to provide possible gateways to get liberated from the clutches of underdevelopment. Hence the present paper tries to study the media access rate among the first generation students of SC & ST communities.

The objective is achieved by observing published science information in terms of space allocated for them, formats being used for the presentation and their placement in both lingual dailies. Through Content analysis as the research methodology, results indicates that science information gets very less space in newspapers and Kannada dailies are devoting more space than English lingual dailies. However news is the most preferred format by all the newspapers in disseminating science stories which were placed (spread) across various pages and presented with pictures.
