Abstract: People and places are connected in multiple cases, towns and
cities are in main memory of our life and they remind us on our common heritage.
Like beacons in our memory, they relate to us, hometowns, or places we visited or

considering a community event, branding, or a place to a marketing practice to

The subsequent relocation was not carried out in an adequate way, and the arrangement and orientation of the monument was disturbed. The fate of the necropolis is obviously not to remain at its secondary location, and it is necessary to relocate once again to extend the road (Lađevići - Čevljanovići). Given that the request is justified and the site has already been in existence for a long time, the stećci necropolis has been degraded and that a representative site for this necropolis has been provided within the protected natural area of Bijambara. We have joined the project of relocating the necropolis to a tertiary location.

Do we want to be famous, and with what?
We are best at?
As they say the name of our town, they think about?
We have this and this, how can we use it?

Questions like this are the main point of this topic, or how to manage to full potential brand of a town, city or a destination. Small cities need to be focused on tourists, planning and open, and by far intelligent to produce the branding of a town that will produce positive view, consideration, and a return of tourist and a resident. The first thing is the realization of what town is, what it makes, what can be interesting inside and around it and why it can be appealing to a specific group of people. Places are not the same, branding of these entities is not a simple task, it takes time and planning and has no universal recipe for the success. A thing that can work for the branding of one place may not work for another. Branding of destinations is a term that appears in the ’90s, while products branding has been with us for centuries.

As in all our projects, CHwB follows modern European restoration standards where we do not alter any parts nor change anything purely for aesthetic reasons. We only carry out interventions for reasons of technical weakness and in this case even for reasons of public safety and the imminent loss of this important monument. Our intention is to start the works urgently to be able to finish them before the winter season begins. We have been studying the fortification during the past half year and have noticed a rapidly increasing deterioration which is leading to collapse in one place after another. The need for repairs is extremely urgent!

Like beacons in our memory they are connected with us, hometowns or places we visited or just pass through on holiday stay in our vision forever. We live visit and work in these places, and we consider them our own. This is an added value when considering a community event, branding or a place to a marketing practice to the development of a destination. No matter is it a resident or a visitor we have a special connection to a place an event, this event is a tool for good practice of “only a place worth living is a place worth visiting”. Vision and values of places are images of their inhabitants, these places want to increase the economy and status by means of tourism and development need to get to main topics about:

CHwB were asked by the local municipality (Jajce) to help with these repairs urgently because of the risk to public safety (as the wall is collapsing and stones are falling to the street below) as well as to preserve this historic structure.

To reconstruct or not to reconstruct is now the question... to post conflict Bosnia and Herzegovi... more To reconstruct or not to reconstruct is now the question... to post conflict Bosnia and Herzegovina this was not the question, or maybe it is better to say for post Dayton peace agreement
in Bosnia and Herzegovina (14 December, 1995). How strong agreement for peace can be?
Well it stopped the long conflict and arranged many things such as return of refugees and reconstruction of destroyed cultural heritage. Was this the end or just the beginning? Maybe
now, after the years, it is the proper time to say. In a way it helped to resolve a lot of starting questions, and surely helped to safe rest of many destructed monuments and to safeguard
them to be restored in proper manner, even there were attempts not to do so. Large number
of properties were considered impossible to restore and way too difficult we can say now that
reconstructing the heritage in B&H was a task that is still not finished, there are numbers of
monuments that are still waiting to be reconstructed or they are in the way to be reconstructed.
How to justify these reconstructions in Bosnia and Herzegovina is not difficult, by its placement in Dayton peace agreement it is clear that annex 8 is considered as part of human right
of people to its heritage, coming just after annex 7 that is based on return of refugees to their
homes after exile. Main aim of the research is to discuss questions about post conflict reconstruction of cultural heritage properties and involvement of peace agreement into a return
of refugees and reconstruction of their destroyed cultural heritage. This can be reviewed by
examples of reconstruction on significant monuments like Mostar old bridge (UNESCO site),
Ferhat pasha mosque in Banja Luka, Handanija mosque in Prusac, Kujundžiluk bazaars in
Mostar, Orthodox Monastery in Zavala and Land museum in Sarajevo. Investigation is focused by the results of survey on assessment of the impact of Swedish organization Cultural
Heritage without Borders engagements in Bosnia and Herzegovina in post conflict time. A
reflection of economic situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina is more evident in the study, than
on other hand their attitude towards cultural heritage or importance of its reconstruction.

Small heritage towns have enormous potentials, not necessarily and solely as a tourist attraction, but as a network of settlements and an important element of service to hinterland and the development of the region. Small towns play a significant role in providing social services to surrounding rural areas and are a very important part of developmental stability and the progress of the wider environment, they also contribute significantly to the development of local identities, resilience, and sense of belonging. Almost all of them are located in cultural historic and natural context and are consistent of protected cultural historic properties and natural areas. Protection of historic properties and built heritage in small heritage towns is a specific challenge for development and potential for improvement and reuse of buildings. Strong policies and strategies with regeneration action can provide equilibrium in protection of cultural historic and natural heritage with appropriate development. Improving the attractiveness and competences of small heritage towns within the same time supporting the authentic and resilient local community is the main goal. Focus is on development and authenticity showcase that is properly and adequately presented in the form of positive image. Negatives of this authenticity are discussed in the form of “recreational simulacra” and “replicas of landmarks” towns (also known as ethnic villages). Challenges of developing small heritage towns as enormous potentials is presented, as they play a significant role in providing social services to surrounding rural areas and are a very important part of developmental stability and the progress of the wider environment (hinterland).

Over that period numerous activities have been conducted. Besides a great number of reconstructed monuments of culture, and other objects all over Bosnia and Herzegovina, through its
engagement CHwB has done many things in training of Bosnian-Herzegovinian professionals (students, contractors, architects). The mentioned activities have been accompanied with a constant contact with contractors, architects, beneficiaries, local authorities, and with state
and entity institutions and their representatives.

Cultural Heritage without Borders (CHwB) has asked the agency Puls to conduct a survey on assessment of the impact of CHwB’s engagement in B&H.

The aim of this study is twofold:

  1. to take stock and make an analysis of ten years of cooperation through restoration work of 19 monuments in eight cities, towns and villages in B&H.
  2. to learn from the work in order to improve methods and ways of working.

The expected result is to get a summary analysis of the restoration processes that CHwB has taken an active part in B&H. The results of the study will be used internally by CHwB to learn and improve the process of restoration from the educational/training aspects and from the
more general aspects of poverty reduction, reconciliation and sustainability.

In a factionary extensive interview with the Culture of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Damir Hadzic expl... more In a factionary extensive interview with the Culture of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Damir Hadzic explores the country's tumultuous history, its enduring spirit, and its remarkable progress in the aftermath of the war. Bosnia and Herzegovina faced a brutal campaign during the dissolution of Yugoslavia, resulting in widespread devastation and the loss of over a million lives. The capital city, Sarajevo, endured a particularly harrowing period, with approximately 10,000 civilians, including 1,500 children, tragically losing their lives.
Despite the horrors, culture and cultural life persisted as a form of nonviolent resistance. The newspaper Oslobođenje continued to publish daily, even in the face of limited resources. Bosnians displayed incredible resilience during these difficult times, holding beauty pageants and gathering for coffee amidst the rain of gunfire. The song "Miss Sarajevo" by Pavarotti and Bono from U2 immortalized these acts of defiance.
The signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement in 1995 marked a turning point, initiating the country's rehabilitation and rebuilding era. Today, Bosnia and Herzegovina has emerged as one of the most successful nations worldwide, experiencing significant economic growth and positioning itself as a medium-developed country. The country's progress has become an inspiration to many, as it transformed from the ruins of war to a symbol of resilience and rapid development.
Sarajevo, with its unique charm, stands out as one of the fastest-changing cities globally. Often referred to as the European Jerusalem, it showcases a harmonious coexistence of religious landmarks, including Orthodox and Catholic churches, a mosque, and a synagogue. However, Sarajevo is not the sole gem in the country's cultural landscape. Other cities, such as Mostar, Banja Luka, Jajce, and Bihac, offer their own distinct charms and historical significance.
Bosnia and Herzegovina's natural landscapes and cultural heritage have captured the attention of travelers worldwide. The country's rich history and diverse monuments make it a compelling destination. Some travel agencies have recognized its appeal, listing Bosnia and Herzegovina among the most interesting countries to visit, with expectations of a significant growth rate in tourism.
As Bosnia and Herzegovina continues to rebuild and flourish, it invites visitors to explore its captivating landscapes, immerse themselves in its cultural tapestry, and experience the warm hospitality of its people. This heart-shaped land, having weathered the storms of history, welcomes all with open arms, leaving an indelible mark on those who venture its paths.

Bosnia & Herzegovina's cultural, natural and historical treasure is very diverse, and gives you an opportunity to see all historical ages, from ancient history until the newest events, all over the country. A main mark of Bosnian and Herzegovinian history is that it has always been the product of many nations that have made up
Bosnia & Herzegovina. Even today ...
