Woodlands MRT Station (NS9/TE2) is an interchange station along the North South Line (NSL) and Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL), located within the Woodlands Regional and the heart of Woodlands New Town. A circular road, Woodlands Square, provides access to the station and its surrounding developments.

The NSL station is above ground, while the TEL station is underground. Woodlands TEL station opened for passenger service on 31 January 2020.

As a forested area in the past, Woodlands New Town is now served by Woodlands, Admiralty and Marsiling stations, with Woodlands station being situated in the Regional Centre (to differentiate it from the older Woodlands Town Centre, which is next to Woodlands Checkpoint). Opened in February 1996 as part of the NSL (Woodlands Extension), the station is built on top of the present Woodlands Integrated Transport Hub (formerly Woodlands Regional Bus Interchange) as a space-saving measure.

The station is a transport node for residents of Woodlands New Town, serving adjacent shopping malls and community amenities (Causeway Point, Woodlands Civic Centre, Woods Square), as well as schools and housing developments. Bus services are offered from Woodlands Temporary Bus Interchange and Woodlands Integrated Transport Hub.

Thomson-East Coast Line Art in Transit: “The Day’s Thoughts Of A Homespun Journey Into Night” by Terence Lin

Woodlands MRT Station – Art In Transit (TEL)

Woodlands, a familiar town synonymous with the idea of travel, as it is located near to the Singapore-Johor Causeway.

The artwork features various fabric patterns that hint at a homely experience. Just as home is a solace for us to dream comfortably, these transport forms inspire us to experience home, even as we travel from one destination to another. Like their respective driver’s state of mind. Their thoughts are translated as illuminated projections from the headlights and thought bubbles. We see the urban dweller’s collective narratives, of aspirations etc, in each moving vehicle.

Through this artwork, travelling, although mundane, might offer commuters new insights about our environment, and the travelling routes we take, day and night.

Civil Defence shelter

Woodlands station is one of six stations along the Thomson-East Coast Line (Thomson stretch) designated as Civil Defence (CD) shelters, which will be activated in times of national emergency. Apart from reinforced construction, the stations are designed and equipped with facilities to ensure the shelter environment is tolerable for all shelterees during shelter occupation. These facilities include protective blast doors, decontamination facilities, ventilation systems, power and water supply systems and a dry toilet system.

The other CD shelters are Lentor, Mayflower, Bright Hill, Mount Pleasant and Gardens by the Bay stations.
