By relating the physical and chemical make up of the leather to the burial environment one may learn which factors present in the burial environment change the leather from "historical" leather into archaeological leather.
This study examines the uptake of minerals by new vegetable tanned leather buried in a known soil environment and compare it to samples of archaeological leather from the same burial environment.

Many finds of the crew’s personal belongings and tools were recovered from the wreck, as well as some fittings from the ship. Based on these artefacts, the loss of the ship has been dated to around 1800. The construction of the ship itself is interpreted as an early example of the single-masted “jagt”, that was to become the most numerous ship type in Danish waters in the 19 th century. The ship was clearly built without the aid of drawings, and a discussion of the "clamp-built" tradition and the technological origins for small-scale shipbuilding of the time preceding the introduction of line drawings on local shipyards is put forward.

In museum contexts, they are both fascinating and relatively rare. This paper focuses on the investigation of two mummified cats belonging to the Museums of Eastern Funen (Østfyns Museer), Denmark. The cats had been displayed at Nyborg Castle and will go back on display after the castle has been refurbished. A white residue present on the cats’ skin was analysed by attenuated total reflectance–Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR–FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy–energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM–EDS). These analyses showed the residues to be calcite. The condition of the skin was measured for hydrothermal stability and pH value. A survey of Danish museums aimed at clarifying the prevalence of mummified cats in Denmark showed that there were only a few in collections and that they were not always recognised as museum objects.

3. Pinsedag indvies den af Over auditør Schrum.« Tredje Pinsedag 1894. (Fanen fra 1860).

Differential scanning colorimity (DSC) analysis was used to determine the shrinkage temperature before and after treatment. It was found that a range of elements, of which iron was the most abundant, was removed by the 2NaEDTA treatment. The shrinkage temperature of the samples was lowered with the removal of some of the mineral contaminants.
