elrohana Times are still grim in the Known Lands. The devastation that the Walkers left in their wake is still being felt across all the nations.Civil war has almost ceased but the effect of their destructive power is still evident: food is scare, famine and disease reach into villages and towns, and anarchy is still rife in out of the way places. However, very slowly some semblance of normality is creeping into the large cities. The followers of Omaga bring law to the cursed earth and Luthien’s light has started to shine once more on the wretched and the dispossessed. There is a rumour abroad that an avatar of Luthien himself has taken command of the church and is preaching his Lord’s word.Martial law has been declared in Aurea by the Council of Dukes, and a war leader has been elected from within their ranks. Duke Herald has taken a hard line in an effort to stabilize a country ravaged by disease and fearful of invasion. All borders are now closed to non essential travel. The death sentence has been re-introduced and is applied to a wide range of offences from hoarding food up to consorting with demons. All Menasian nationals and followers of Death, Corruption and Abyss have been advised to leave the country for the duration of the crisis, as the authorities cannot guarantee their safety. These draconian measures have so far proved effective in maintaining Aurea’s stability, but at the cost of the nation’s liberal nature. It has just turned autumn when news is heard of the chance of work in Aurea, and by default the chance to be fed and have a roof over your head. Mercenaries and freebooters are being drawn to the South Eastern seaboard, and in particular to the foothills of the Granite Mountains. Here, Major Richard Heartwood of the Aurean Provincial army is forming a small but powerful group to assist him in his official duties. Various rumours have been heard as to what it entails – ranging from slaying giants to diving into the watery abyss to search for pearls. All that is known to be true is that the money is good.Refs: Robin, Rob and DuncanPlayer places: £55This is a camping and self catering event. There is no running water but water will be provided by the site. There are portable toilets available for use.We are pleased to say that Skian Mhor will be bringing a small selection of weapons and props for your buying pleasure so bring some pennies!Crew are always welcome and it is FREE to crew on this event (please note you will still need to bring a tent and food/drink). We are currently somewhat outnumbered by the players so please let us know ASAP if you are up for crewing, even if it is just for one day/afternoon/morning.We welcome all in character tents but there is no problem if you haven’t got one. However we do have a contact who is currently selling 4m and 5m white canvas Sahara bell tents. If interested please email 'enquiries at legion of dreams dot com' and we will get you some prices.Characters will be sent out a week or so prior to the event.Taking place at Root n Branch Acres, Old Station Road, Hampton-in-Arden near Solihull, West MidlandsRootnBranch Acres is a 15 acre outdoor site incorporating mature woodlands, small glades, new coppice trees, 10 acres of tree-lined fields, stabling, office, storage barns, parking and basic toilet facilities.http://www.rootnbranch.co.uk/For details of our system and world, please have a look at www.legionofdreams.com (comment on this)

7:18 am - Peterborough LRP UK
swiftblade So, just as a litmus test, if a monthly linear style LRP were to start in and around Peterborough UK would there be much interest? It would have a full and rich game world, a simple and effective combat system and be run by experienced LRPers. As far as I know there's nothing for miles around, and lots of LRPers within 50 miles or so. Beleaguered communities that scraped through the most severe Winter in (human) living memory now start sending out scouts and messengers to glean what they can of the world at large. What will be your part in this – helping villages and towns to prepare for the future ?Hunting down the remaining cultists and also closing what remains of the rift in Mayene ?Or maximising this opportunity for profit?Word has reached you of one or more of the following offers of employment in these desperate times, either by word of mouth or written notice.1. 8:20 pm - Seeking WyrdCon academic book submissions
dicemistress Following the success of last year's convention and academic program we're preparing for this year's convention. Just like last year, in addition to various games and events there is an academic portion featuring various interactive theater theorists, critics, craftsman and designers who will explain their art and demonstrate their creations in both interactive panels and hands-on workshops. As a part of this event we're again soliciting for articles for a PDF book that we'll be putting out in conjunction with this academic portion. This PDF book will be comprised of articles, essays and other written works revolving around the summit's theme "Convergence of Interactive Theater."Interactive Theater is the concept where the audience and actors are both part of the performance and are commonly one and the same. Activities such as Live Action Role Playing, also known as LARP, is one such theater concept having been around for decades. Others such as ARGs (also known as Alternate Reality Games) or even Live Simulations are also included in this definition.Article authors are welcome from all styles and genres of interactive theater, both veteran and new individuals and no matter where they live. We want to capture interactive theater in as many of its different forms as we can. If you are interested in contributing to this publication please have your article in no later than April 20, 2010. All contributors who have their articles published will be sent a copy of the PDF whether they attend the convention or not and before it's released to the general public post convention via the web.If you want more information on WyrdCon or want to find out how to participate as a summit panelist/presenter please contact the convention organizers here: http://wyrdcon.com/wp/contact-us/.If you'd like to see what last year's book looked like, you can download a copy here: http://www.mortalisrpg.com/forum/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;id=6.Submission Guidelines can be found here: http://wyrdcon.com/wp/vendors-designers/academic-submissions/. There have been some minor changes in the guidelines from last year.Submission Deadline: April 20, 2011Please send your submissions, questions or other summit book related inquiries to summit@mortalisrpg.com.Thanks,- Amber E.Summit book editor (comment on this)

10:28 am - Lullaby of Broadway Needs You!
ambug666 Hi folks! My name is Mike Young and I've been running LARPs for over 20 years now. I have decided to go into semi-retirement after my next big LARP entitled Lullaby of Broadway 3: Into the Woods. All character from the Lullaby of Broadway series are taken from musical. Into the Woods is set in the lands of myth and legend. We have characters from Camelot, Man of La Mancha, even Jesus Christ Superstar. The game is running on October 15 - 17, 2010 in scenic Hagerstown, Maryland. It holds 70 players and was full until recently. We've had a few drops and need people to fill the following roles:- Haaj - He is a beggar and a poet and involved in a number of shady dealings. He is from the musical Kismet.- Rapunzel - You know, locked in a tower, long hair, that sort of thing? She has romance plots and a bit of espionage. She is from Into the Woods.- Philia - Young naive girl who is in love, but there are complications. She also is involved in a secret adventuresome plot that is quite fun. She is from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.- The Wizard of Oz. He's involved in a lot of politics, and has some interesting secrets. He's from both Wicked and The Wiz.Lullaby of Broadway is a LARP first and foremost and focuses on characters and plots. No musical ability is required and you do not have to sit there and watch while others perform. There will be lots to do during the game. And it is your last opportunity to play in a big Mike Young LARP.We also need Cast/NPCs. You would be playing a number of different roles over the course of the weekend. We have costuming available for Cast.Send an e-mail to ambug666 at google's mail service if you are interested. Thanks! (comment on this)

5:51 pm - Chimera report
exiledinpn I've just got back from Chimera, the NZLarps con which runs in Auckland this time every year. Despite having had a day to recover in Wellington, I am still exhausted. Two straight days of larping will do that to you. Anyway, here's the details. Some of the games will re-run in Wellington, so I'll avoid spoilers for them; if you want to see the dirt, look for catnip_mouse's posts on them.**( Details...Collapse )**Overall, a damn good weekend. There was no game I was unhappy with, and in most of them I had a blast. I'll be going back next year, when it is likely to be even bigger and better. Now I just need to think of a game to run...current mood: tired (comment on this)

3:37 pm - Player versus Referee
ed_fortune So, you're at a LRP event and something outside the usual parameters of the game happens.A referee makes an informed call on this, possibly consulting with others. You strongly disagree with the call, as it has changed your game radically, perhaps making your current character unplayable, or simply making the game 'not what you wanted'?What do you? How do complain? What do expect to happen? How do you define the parameters of your relationship with the organisers, and what do you see think of as substandard, normal or exceptional? If you didn't the organisers beyond going to their larps, and that it's "LRP ran as business", does this modify your behaviour? Does being a 'paying customer' change anything? Should it? (cross posted to Rule 7 and RPG.Net) (8 comments | comment on this)
