The indicators of life quality are undetermined and unstandardized; the problem of determination of a single quantitative meaning of the quality of life remains unsolved. The aim of the researchto describe modern approaches to determining the quality of life and on their basis to propose a comprehensive theoretical model for the explanation of life quality phenomenon and the role of health in its formation. Methods: analysis and synthesis of scientific literature, documentary data; methods of theoretical research (analysis, synthesis, specification, classification, historical method, comparative analysis, system and structural analysis). The results: It has been proved that the quality of life is closely related to the health of human beings and it includes physical, mental and social being, considering the beliefs, expectations and world outlook. Based on the theoretical analysis and synthesis, it proposes the multicomponent structure of the quality of life, taking into account both positive and negative aspects of life, common to people of different sex, age, and state of health. Domains, sub-domains, indicators, and variables were defined as the main components of the model. Physical Component, Mental Component, Social Activity, Material Component, Development and Identity, Environment were assigned to the components of the highest level. The health-related quality of life was separated as the single part of the model. Conclusions and recommendations for further research. The theoretical model based on the principles of consistency, hierarchy, equality, determinism, unity of internal factors and external conditions was developed.

Materials and methods. Analysis and generalization of the data of the special scientific and methodological literature on the issues of physical therapy of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; method of analysis of medical records; elaboration of Internet sources, including databases of evidence based medical literature. Results. The control system, which is reasonable to be implemented at three stages (preliminary, current, final) of the process of physical therapy (PT) and PR of patients with COPD, is substantiated. The control system within the competence of the physical therapist provides for rehabilitation examination (preliminary control), monitoring (current control) and final evaluation of certain indicators. There were 5 groups of main indicators: quality of life/ activity and participation, disease course, body functions, body structures, educational competence. For the selected groups of indicators, the selection of measuring instruments was made, the features of their application at different stages were outlined, the values of the minimum clinically significant difference for the selected indicators were given. Conclusions. The process of pulmonary rehabilitation of people with COPD needs to be evaluated and monitored for its effectiveness in accordance with the expected results. The monitoring system allows to track all changes in the patient's health and functioning, regulate the intervention and its intensity, evaluate both the individual physical therapy session and the effectiveness of the entire program. One of the criteria of the control system is the effectiveness of PT and PR, which is evaluated on the basis of the dynamics and direction of changes of the studied indicators, their compliance with the expected result and taking into account the values of the minimal clinically significant difference for the evaluated indicators.

With respect to brain and cognition, the prevalence of neurodegenerative disorders increases with age, affecting health and quality of life, and imposing significant healthcare costs. Although the effects of physical exercise on cognition in advanced age have been widely explored, in-depth fundamental knowledge of the underlying mechanisms of the exercise-induced cognitive improvements is lacking. Recent research suggests that myokines, factors released into the blood circulation by contracting skeletal muscle, may play a role in mediating the beneficial effect of exercise on cognition. Our goal in this ongoing (living) review is to continuously map the rapidly accumulating knowledge on pathways between acute or chronic exercise-induced myokines and cognitive domains enhanced by exercise.MethodRandomized controlled studies will be systematically collected at baseline an...

The ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine has led many Ukrainians to fight for their country, either in the regular army or as civilian members of voluntary territorial defense forces. There is, however, a dearth of knowledge on the mental health of combatants in this conflict. Prior research on the mental health of combatants is unlikely to translate to the situation at hand because such research is focused on combatants fighting abroad and neglects civilian combatants. Methods. This study provides the first attempt to investigate the mental health of Ukrainian combatants in the regular army and voluntary territorial defense forces by analyzing the prevalence rates of common mental health issues, as well as their demographic and socioeconomic predictors. Results. Between March 19 and 31, 2022, the initial period of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, a sample of 178 Ukrainian combatants (104 in the regular army and 74 civilian combatants) participated in a survey on symptoms of anxiety (GAD-2), depression (PHQ-2), and insomnia (ISI). Conclusions. A sizable portion of Ukrainian combatants reached cutoff levels for clinical symptoms of anxiety (44Á4%), depression (43Á3%), and insomnia (12Á4%). Importantly, the mental health of Ukrainian combatants varied between professional soldiers and civilian combatants, as well as by gender, marital status, by whether or not they were located in Russian-occupied/active-combat areas, and dependent on whether they were personally involved in combat. This study provides early evidence on the mental health of Ukrainian combatants, pointing to their urgent need for mental health assistance in the ongoing war.

The purpose was to develop an inclusive physical education program for schoolchildren with autism spectrum disorders and experimentally test its effectiveness. Materials and methods. An inclusive physical education curriculum for children with autism spectrum disorders was made up and incorporated into the process of physical education in secondary schools. At the beginning and the end of the pedagogical experiment, 12-year-old children were tested in the experimental (involved in the author's program, n=9) and control groups (involved in the traditional curriculum, n=11). The indicators of psychophysical fitness of children were determined according to the results of 19 test exercises. The reliability of the differences was determined by the Mann-Whitney U test. Results. Under the influence of the author's program, physical fitness of children of the experimental group improved significantly. Whereas the trend towards improving almost all indicators of the physical fitness of children with autism spectrum disorders in the traditional program has not been confirmed statistically. The traditional physical education program was most effective in promoting flexibility (inclinations forward) and coordination (passing and catching a ball against a wall) in children with autism spectrum disorders. Conclusions. The author's program was proven to be significantly more effective than the traditional ones in the formation of the strength of shoulder extensors and hand flexors, fine coordination of hand muscles, the speed-strength of leg muscles, and balance. This allows us to recommend it for use in physical education lessons in institutions of general secondary education.

The lack of an integrated approach to assessing the success of student’s training in PE does not allow a systematic, transparent and effective monitoring of the dynamics of the development of the personality of a competitive specialist, establishing the causes of problems and developing forecasts for the future. The goal of study was to develop and justify a system for assessing the competence of PE of students studying at universities and colleges. A survey of experts (N=82) was conducted to find out the importance of each of the structural elements of competence. The validity of proposed approaches was investigated. Three domains (“Movement Activity and Attitude to It,” “Physical Health and Fitness,” “Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities”) were distinguished in the structure of competence in PE, each of which was divided into 2–4 components. Designed assessment method covers all structural parts of the competence in PE, the goals of student learning, takes into account the list of necessary knowledge and skills in accordance with the requirements of the program, provides the formation of motivation for an active lifestyle, and maintains a level of physical activity sufficient for health. Developed method allows to determine the overall assessment of the formation of competence in PE, as well as a separate component, it gives an opportunity to calculate “critical” components, take into account interests and needs of students, teachers, and university / college administration.
