Not all of the newer features of L ATEX2HTML v99.1 are described yet. A fully updated manual is underway and will be released when completed. History Nikos Drakos ’ original manuscript was updated for version v96.1 by Herb Swan and converted for LATEX 2ε by Michel Goossens. Extensive revisions were made by Ross Moore for v96.1 rev-f, incorporating also suggestions from Michel Goossens. Another major revision was required to adequately describe the new features made possible with HTML 3.2, and recent developments in image-generation and macro-handling. This work was done by Ross Moore, as were most of the revisions for v98.1, v98.2 and v99.1. Portability for non-Unix systems has been achieved due to work done mainly by Marek Rouchal, Uli Wortmann...

In addition, it offers an easy migration path towards authoring complex hypermedia documents using familiar word-processing concepts. LaTeX2HTML replicates the basic structure of a LaTeX document as a set of interconnected HTML files which can be explored using automatically generated navigation panels. The cross-references, citations, footnotes, the table of contents and the lists of figures and tables, are also translated into hypertext links. Formatting information which has equivalent "tags" in HTML (lists, quotes, paragraph breaks, type styles, etc.) is also converted appropriately. The remaining heavily formatted items such as mathematical equations, pictures or tables are converted to images which are placed automatically at the correct positions in the final HTML document. This is because a L a T E X document contains a lot of formatting and page layout information that has no direct equivalent in HTML. It is not due to inadequacies in HTML but rather to the fact that HTML addresses different issues. HTML provides constructs for describing the structure of a document and not its precise layout. Having said that it is possible to translate L a T E X commands which have direct equivalents in HTML as well as mirror the structure of a document using hypertext links. The remaining heavily formatted items such as equations, pictures or tables can be converted to images which can be included in the final document or made available through hypertext links. Apart from dealing with the above issues, the L a T E X to HTML translator described in this document extends L a T E X by supporting arbitrary hypertext links and symbolic cross-references between evolving remote docume...

One consequence of this flexibility is that the physical location, node granularity, and even the contents of many documents are more liable to change. Therefore some mechanism is needed to simplify the creation and maintenance of hypertext links pointing to specific locations in such constantly changing "living" infostructures. WebLinker allows a document writer to assign logical names to destination links within his document. These logical names provide a consistent view of the document as a changing infostructure. We show how this idea allows dynamic translation of a fragment identifier within the infostructure to a URL when it is traversed. WebLinker also provides a mechanism to create logical names for resources that are external to the infostructure. These Local Resource Names (LRNs) may then be resolved separately from the document generation process into appropriate URLs. In this paper we describe the implementation of WebLinker and also give a complete example of how to convert your documents into logical infostructures.
