Several multipath channel models such as (AWGN, Rayleigh and Rician) has been simulated and compared with a proposed hybrid combination of Rayleigh, Rician and AWGN to observe a realistic multipath faded environment. These cases are based on no fading and flat Rayleigh-fading, multiple-diversity reception Rayleigh-fading, and

Although blood pressure can be modified, there is a large proportion of patients whose blood pressure remains uncontrolled. The aim of this study, termed Edvantage 360°, was to gain a deeper understanding of hypertension management in Asia from the perspective of patients and doctors, and to propose strategies to improve blood pressure control. Methods: Conducted in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand, Edvantage 360°was a mixed-methods observational study that used both qualitative and quantitative elements: qualitative interviews and focus groups with patients (N = 110), quantitative interviews with patients (N = 709), and qualitative interviews with doctors (N = 85).

We wish to find connecting nodes between two nodes or two groups of source nodes. In order to find these connecting nodes in huge graphs, we have devised a highly parallelized variant of a k-shortest path algorithm that levies the power of the Hadoop distributed computing

However, in more practical perspective, emotion is deemed complex to be individually segregated and it is a continuous process that will change dynamically over time. Subsequently, no researcher can really claim of being able to find the threshold discriminating one emotion to another. In this paper, an alternative approach of Valence-Arousal is introduced based on the psychologists' understanding that emotion can be represented in two emotion primitives of Valence and Arousal. Empirical results show potential of the proposed approach, which achieved reasonable accuracy with better speech emotion understanding and analysis.

This diagnosis often depends on behavioral test. It is known that individuals with autism have abnormal brain signals different from typical persons yet this difference in signals is slight that it is often difficult to distinguish from the normal. Experimental Modal Analysis (EMA) and Operational Modal Analysis (OMA) are two widely used techni... more Experimental Modal Analysis (EMA) and Operational Modal Analysis (OMA) are two widely used techniques in the identification of modal parameters. EMA is synonymous with a laboratory environment requiring complete system shutdown while OMA is implemented in a real environment where the ambient forces cannot be isolated. A new method, namely Impact-Synchronous Modal Analysis (ISMA) utilising the modal extraction techniques commonly used in EMA but performed in the presence of the ambient forces, is proposed. Transfer functions, from where the modal parameters are extracted, are obtained from Fourier transform of cross and auto correlation functions. These functions are estimated quantities and their outcomes are dependable on the averaging techniques used. The coherence functions are commonly used to measure the acceptability of the estimations. Impact-Synchronous Time Averaging is compared against Spectral Averaging while performing Modal Analysis in a situation containing ambient and operating forces. Results showed that while the transfer functions obtained from both the averaging techniques were of similar quality, the Impact-Synchronous Time Averaging indicated better coherence than the Spectral Averaging.

Research paper thumbnail of Scheduling algorithms for shared fiber-delay-line optical packet Switches-part I: the single-stage case

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2000

When contention occurs, fiber delay lines (FDLs) are needed to delay (buffer) the packets that have lost in the contention to some future timeslots for the desired output ports. There have been several optical-buffered switch architectures and FDL assignment algorithms proposed in the literature. However, most of them either have high implementation complexity or fail to schedule in advance departure time for the delayed packets. In this paper, we study the packet scheduling algorithms for the single-stage shared-FDL optical packet switch. We propose three new FDL assignment algorithms, namely sequential FDL assignment (SEFA), multi-cell FDL assignment (MUFA), and parallel iterative FDL assignment (PIFA) algorithms for the switch. Our algorithms can make FDL and output-port reservation so as to schedule departure time for packets. Owing to FDL and/or output-port conflicts, the packets that fail to be scheduled are discarded before entering the switch so that they do not occupy any FDL resources. We show by simulation that with these algorithms, the optical-buffered switch can achieve a loss rate of ~10 −7 even at the load of 0.9. These algorithms are extended to the three-stage Clos-network optical packet switches in our companion paper.
