this is so ridiculous and stupid and bad but not in a "wow this is lowkey a beautiful trash masterpiece" way, it's just bad. obviously i loved it a lot but don't come crying to me if you watch it and it bores you half to death. if you dare, it would make a good double with radioactive dreams for john stockwell 80's movies about how good an idea it would be if kindhearted fashionable teens ruled the post apocalyptic wasteland. also this is literally what's going to happen in the future irl.

cool fact: rachel talalay was apparently responsible for the computers in a handful of moments where a screen appears. for example at the end (spoiler alert) the…

"I told you to find adventure. I didn't say drag it home." - James Earl Jones as Albert

I watched the Mystery Science Theater 3000 presentation of this movie in honor of James Earl Jones. His presence in this movie means that Jones has a place in the MST3Kverse.

And we MSTies are grateful and honored to have had him in this movie and as a part of the MST3Kverse. What an incomparable, towering talent.

May he rest in peace.

This film takes place "Fifteen years from now," which means it's set in the year 1999, which is now 18 years in the past. We'll get there, though, City Limits. Just give us a couple more weeks to get the ball rolling.

This is one of the first MST3K episodes I remember seeing when my cable provider finally deigned to pick up Comedy Central in 1992. The previous summer I had caught Time of the Apes late one night at a friend's shore house and Cave Dwellers when it aired (on Lifetime of all channels) during a lineup of all the shows that were nominated the first year it…

City Limits is what happens when someone watches Mad Max, squints real hard, and says, “Yeah, we can do that… sort of… probably… maybe.” Set in a totally realistic post-apocalyptic world (read: a bunch of abandoned industrial parks and some dirt bikes), the movie follows a ragtag biker gang of orphans who are basically the world’s last chance for civilization. So, you know, no pressure. They do war with a corporate militia dressed like they’re late to a Laser Tag birthday party, all while trying to figure out how to rebuild society on whatever’s left of Los Angeles’ backlots. The…

The "rap" song that plays over the end credits sounds like a white-as-a-ghost frat bro repeatedly projectile vomiting after a night of binge drinking. Or maybe it's from having to watch City Limits. It's a film that certainly made me nauseous by the end credits.

Think Mad Max but marketed towards lame, wanna-be rebel 1980s American teenagers. The uniform for the antagonist's mooks is either suits or coveralls and hard hats... because how lame, man... so square...

The post-apocalyptic teen raiders are at least are given motorcycles and not bicycles... though the later would actually probably be more realistic for a post-apocalyptic setting. But they're trying so hard to come across as tough and... well, let's just say I think…

Mike Nelson as Morrissey (scrumptious)

Call this Snoriosa: A Mad Max coma
Post-apocalypse biker epic with Kim Cattrall in layers of flannel, John Stockwell as Lego Ghost Rider, Rae Dawn Chong chonging in Batongaville, James Earl Jones piloting remote control kamikazes, Robby Benson not having the decency to jump off a bridge at the start of this alternative to nerve-gas exposure, Dean Devlin is inspired to become a screenwriter, Kane Hodder wasted, Jennifer Balgobin wasted, John Diehl absolutely wasted, two hours of my life wasted.

Ben “Trash King” Jones

If ever a film was made to have those immortal words “IN A WORLD” thrust upon it then it’s Aaron Lipstadt’s CITY LIMITS.

With a cast that will raise some eyebrows (especially those of us that dwell in the Cinematic Trash Heap), City Limits plays like it’s Streets of Fire meets Mad Max via way of The Warriors, and if that sounds too awesome to be true, fear not, because City Limits is FUCKING AWESOME.

When you have both Kim Cattrall and Rae Dawn Chong in the same movie, magic is going to happen. Throw into the mix James Earl Jones having the time of his life and a bunch of high octane Motorbike stunts (all done at a moderate…

Not superbly awful, just incompetent and overly complex for the resources it had available.

James Earl Jones deserves better. Not sure about Robby Benson, but Rae Dawn Chong was perfect for this schlock.

"Starring James Earl Jones at a low point in his career and John Stockwell at a high point in his."

Quite an incredible cast with James Earl Jones, Rae Dawn Chong, Kim Cattrall 🥰, Tony Plana and even Kane Hodder.
James and Kane are minor appearances.
.
Talk about a butchered version. I watched the MST3K version and then I watched it on Tubi because Shout! doesn't have this episode. It would annoy me less if they put the commercials where the commercial breaks are in tv shows but it's just random.

"Oh, there's no place like home for the Holocaust".

MST3K's City Limits is a funny taken on the ""Dystopian Society" movie trope, and features a young Mike Nelson playing the role of Morrissey a few years before he'd take on the hosting duties.

This is a song that I wrote at a time in my life when I was very, very, very sad. Breakfast, actually. It's called "Hairdresser in a Coma": I cried last night, I died a million deaths. Thinking of your sweet face, and the way you sing. I cried inside, we lied and died. And then I cried again. I must have wept for hours as I... ”

Aside from the ridiculously tacky costumes, City Limits is the most flavorless post-apocalyptic sci-fi film I've ever seen. Every setting feels like the blandest natural or urban location they could find in Southern California, and the whole motorcycle gang plot is basic as fuck. Interestingly, Kim Cattrall, Rae Dawn Chong, and Darrell Larson are all about to have significant breakouts right after this. It's like the last turd before greener pastures. As far as James Earl Jones goes, I can't even begin to compute why he's in this.
