It’s summer in Copenhagen, it’s a time of endless days and careless nights. Simon is a 23-year-old medical student. Jeez. Look at the reviews here for this. Welp (puts on lawyer suit and speaks in southern drawl), that makes me feel like I need to defend it, so that’s what I’m going to do.
Before I begin, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I feel it is only fair to point out that multiple cuts of this film seem to exist. I have seen runtimes of 114 and 104 minutes listed elsewhere, whereas I watched a 100 minute version. Different versions may lead to different results. All I can present is a case for that which was available to me.
Uninspired, they say. Boring, they say. Poorly written, they say. BALDERDASH, I SAY! Winner of the 2017 Bodil Award…
Yes, life in Scandinavia is this uninspiring. No point in making a uninspired film about it. Pick inspiring stories to tell instead so to inspire the uninspired!

Rich kid with a school shooter vibe being a dick to everybody.
Inspired by the films of Joachim Trier. In the Blood is the first feature from Rasmus Heisterberg, the screenwriter of A Royal Affair and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. A coming of age drama about taking responsibility for yourself and your actions. Flatmates in Copenhagen decide they want to sell off their apartment. One of them ends up in a tailspin, he is unable to cope with stepping into adulthood. You could argue the big ”moments” are only there to add more drama in the lives of these young 20somethings, but I found their journey captivating and the acting believable. Fairly universal in its themes.
tries to be a coming-of-age-floater, artsy and good-looking, but is somehow lost in where to go, what to say, and character design aswell. look at ALL THESE SLEEPLESS NIGHTS to see this approach successfully accomplished.
I blodet is a perfect example of a movie that feels like it really wants to say something important, but never actually figures out what that thing is. You can almost sense that everyone behind the camera thought they were making something insightful and thoughtful, but what ends up on screen is completely hollow. The movie has the vibe of depth without any of the substance to back it up.
The main character is especially hard to sit with. He’s less “flawed but interesting” and more just a straight-up brat, and the worst part is that he never really changes. There’s basically no character development to speak of, so you’re stuck watching him make the same choices and have the…
Rather boring movie about two medicine students with friends and their living community at the end of their education. The main character was to unlikeably for me to really feel with him. His actions not understandable enough. It would have been ok for me that there is no real plot but then I would have needed characters or interactions I can relate to.
I love finding random free movies to watch from time to time, but jeez I swear the editing and camera work in this took away 3 years off my life.
Copenhagen my love. watching this ripped my heart out aaahhhhh
beautiful visually with a hollow and kind of bitter emotional centre. the line between hedonism and self destruction is so narrow. oh boy are these lads walking it
captures brilliantly the aimlessness i felt in danish youth when i lived there; the culture has this expectation of coolness, when you first meet people they can be almost painfully reserved, almost blank. the drinking culture is so strong there and i can imagine it’s because it’s so easy to break out of the subtle repression of the everyday by drinking. they go hard and it’s normal. ‘i blodet’ explores how the partying and casual hookups tip into a dissociative, hedonistic spiral…
