Hello... I'm doing a research on transexual and transgender people for a project for my english class...since i'm required to interview a transexual/transgender person, i'm wondering if any of you are willing to let me interview you? just post a comment and i'll give your my screenname or whatever that works the best for you...it'd only take at least 15-30 mins of your time. i will appreciate it very much.. thanks!!!

I read today on planetout.com that the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) has (finally!) stated that it will only support non-discrimination legislation that includes gender and gender expression in addition to sexual orientation. I for one am very glad that the HRC is finally being inclusive of trans people in word AND deed! They do such good work in other areas, especially in the area of info. gathering, but I always felt like if I supported them, it would kind of be a slap in the face to everyone who puts the "T" in LGBT.
Yay! this is good news!
Of course, the same article stated that there was little chance of passing such legislation this term with both houses of congress controlled by Republicans... another reason to get out the vote this November!

For some reason or another I was thinking about gender neutral bathrooms. I agree completely that that choice should be available. Some people just don't fit a gender by choice or not by choice dammit! However, and don't kill me, I do think that the option for seperate bathrooms shoudl be available. Here's my deal. I was sexually abused as a younger child and would feel very uncomfy if a man were to be using the stall next to me. I feel like a shit for feeling this way. I wish I could get over my uncomfort level so taht everyone would feel that gender doesn't matter etc...because I know deep down it doesn't. Not every man is going to hurt me just because he is a man. Any thoughts??
Gender sucks...I agree. So why do I have to feel affected by it!?! I wish I could just get over my past so that people who feel that htey have no gender or are the opposite gender mentally or have both can feel comfy going into a bathroom.
I must say though, that when I went to the lgbtq midwest conference, I was fine using hte gender neautral bathroom. Must have been because I knew that most of the "men" using the stall next to me were probably gay. I shouldn't assume. It's all in my head.
Bottom line is that I want gender neautral bathrooms, but yet I worry about my saftey because of my past. Any thoughts?
You ever feel constrained by your label? or the labels that have been forced upon you? I must admit, finding my label was comforting on some level of course, but other times, it boxes me in and people expect a certain thing out of me or certain actions. Sometimes I just want to say I'm me...but then I'm not quite content with myself. I suppose we all have this need or desire to belong to something. Drifting only works for so long before you start to feel completely out of place or even disowned by the lgbtq family. bah, i'm rambling.
I'm just curious (at least when people start signing up for the community) how many people are a part of their local lgbtqa group. I know we've got one here in Milwaukee...in fact we've got all sorts, one for younger people, one on the UWM campus (which I was a part of for awhile) and one for the general public. How are things in your neck of the woods concerning education resources and help/support?
I just thought that this would make a good post. I know the human rights campaign tries to do a lot for us people and I think it's always good to read up on the latest happenings. So I linked to the opening page where you can look around and see the latest happenings.
